On October 15, 1951, Shanghai Electric Power School was founded, and its campus is located inLongchang Road371.
In June 1952, Shanghai Electric Power School was renamed Shanghai Electric Power School.In October of the same year, the former Pingliang Road School Building of Shanghai Polytechnic College was accepted[14]。

In 1960, East China Power Management Bureau incorporated Shanghai Amateur Power College and Shanghai Electric Power Industry College into the school.After the merger of the two schools, the school was renamed as Shanghai Electric Power Industry College.
In April 1965, it changed its name to Shanghai Electric Power College.
In July 1974, it was renamed as July 21 Workers' University of East China Electric Power Administration.
In February 1979, it was renamed as Shanghai Electric Power College.
In January 1985, the school was upgraded to Shanghai Electric Power Institute with the approval of the Ministry of Education.There are twelve undergraduate majors with four years of study.The school implements the leadership and management system of the Ministry of Water and Electricity and Shanghai Municipality, with the Ministry of Water and Electricity as the main leader.
In March 1989, the first three majors of the college were listed as bachelor degree awarding points by the National Education Commission. By the end of 1994, the college had eight undergraduate majors as bachelor degree awarding points.
In 1994, the Ministry of Electric Power decided to reform the system of subordinate colleges and universities, and decided that Shanghai Electric Power Institute would enter East China Electric Power Group from January 1, 1995.The electric power group participates in the management, and implements the management system under the joint leadership of the Ministry and the electric power group, with the electric power group as the main body.
