Shanghai Flavor Research Institute was founded in 1956, directly under the former Ministry of Light Industry (later the National Light Industry Bureau and the China Light Industry Association).Shanghai Flavor Research Institute is the first and only professional flavor research institute in China.In 2003, Shanghai Research Institute of Daily Chemical Industry (founded in 1979) was under the management of Shanghai Flavor Research Institute.[31]

It faces the west from the east and rests on the top of the mountain. The facade is unified with the main building of the campus in three longitudinal sections.The upper section is a Xieshan roof, the middle section is a plain brick wall exterior wall, and the lower section is composed of plinth and apron slope, and the base is decorated with cement paint.The roof of the upper section adopts the modern structure to replace the wood method. The owls at both ends of the main ridge are simplified, and there is no ridge beast at the end of the berm.Completed in 1955, it was listed in the fifth batch of excellent historical buildings in Shanghai in August 2015.[61]
