On the evening of April 29, a series of activities for Gu Xidong's 100th birthday, jointly sponsored by the Chinese Dramatists Association and the Zhejiang Federation of Literature and Arts, and operated by Jiaxing Yingzi Cultural Creativity Co., Ltd., opened in Xitang Ancient Town, Jiaxing, to pay tribute to "Gu Bobo" in the name of drama.

The activity was divided into seven parts, including cultural exchange activity for Gu Xidong's 100th birthday, essay solicitation for Gu Xidong's 100th birthday, Gu Xidong's drama art into the scenic spot, the release of the documentary "Gu Xidong", the first national professional young actors of Shaoxing Opera, Gu Xidong's drama film exhibition, etc. The event brought together ten major operas, eleven major troupes and nearly 100 artists to perform together.

Gu Xidong was born in Xitang, an ancient town, in April 1924. His former name was Gu Zengde. He is a famous contemporary dramatic artist. He used to be the deputy director of Jiaxing Cultural Bureau, the president of Zhejiang Yueju Opera House, the chairman of Zhejiang Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the executive director of China Dramatists Association, and the honorary chairman of Zhejiang Dramatists Association. In his lifetime, he created more than 80 classic dramas, 40 of which were published and 5 films were put on the screen. His representative works, "Five Women Pray for Longevity", "Monkey King Beats Baigujing Three Times", "Han Palace Resentment", "Lu You and Tang Wan", were adapted and staged by almost all major dramas in the country, and his works won the highest prize in the national drama, film and television circles. He also wrote a large number of opera, Quyi essays, essays, essays, etc. He helped new works, fostered new talents, devoted his life to the cause of drama, and made outstanding contributions.
This time, the National Peking Opera Theater, the Fourth Troupe of Shaanxi Opera Research Institute (Qinqiang Opera), Henan Opera Art Protection and Inheritance Center, Henan Henan Opera Youth League, Tianjin Pingju Theater, Guangdong Cantonese Opera Theater and others jointly performed the classic aria of "Five Women Pray for Longevity"; Hubei Provincial Peking Opera Academy, Zhejiang Wu Opera Art Research Institute and Zhejiang Shaoxing Opera Art Research Institute will also cooperate with a complete lineup to perform the classic work of Shaoxing Opera adapted by Mr. Gu Xidong, "Monkey King Beats White Bones Three Times". The organizer also created two commemorative songs "Remember" and "Forever", and invited Mao Weitao, Wang Binmei, Chen Huiling, Cai Zhefei, Zhang Yiqing, Chen Lijun, Li Yunxiao, Xia Yiyi, Xu Hong, He Qingqing, and all the florets of the 2019 Little Hundred Flowers Class to sing.

It is reported that the series of activities for Gu Xidong's 100th birthday will last until May 3.
