Backup data and migration scheme with Vultr snapshot backup snapshots function

We should be familiar with Vultr merchants. When they began to develop in the early years, they attracted users with various gift activities. At the beginning, the speed was very good. However, due to problems with the lines and users, especially recently, the stability of the Vultr VPS was poor. There was a test machine on the old left hand, especially at night. However, we have to admit that the number of data centers, as well as the ability to delete and rebuild them at will, is a relatively appropriate part of the business needs of users.

Some friends mentioned that even if Vultr is in the same machine room, the speed of driving to different IP segment addresses is different. Or you can migrate to different computer rooms to see the speed. So Lao Zuo plans to use his family's snapshot backup Snapshots The function packs and backs up the data in the existing server together with the system, so that there is no need to waste time installing the system and restoring data when migrating data.

At present, many businesses provide Snapshots The snapshot function is really good. But we can't rely too much on this. We met a netizen before Vultr Data cannot be restored due to snapshot backup. So it is safe for us not to delete the original machine first, and then delete it after everything is stable.

First, preparations

1. Backup data

If our data is important (and certainly important), it is recommended to use multiple backup mode. For example, we can package website data to other local or remote servers for backup. You can't rely too much on snapshot backup in case of failure.

2. Delete machine after

Before snapshot backup and data recovery, do not delete the existing machine. In case of failure to restore, we can still use the original machine. In conclusion, we need to ensure the security of data.

Second, snapshot backup of the current machine

Enter the current VPS host, see the Snapshots option, set a label name, and click Take Snapshot. After the backup is completed, we can create it.

Second, create a new machine to restore data

The old machine used to be in Los Angeles. I'm going to try it in Seattle. Create a new machine.

When creating a machine, we can directly select the snapshot backup snapshot from the system location and select the snapshot created in the previous step. For configuration selection, it should be noted that only peer or advanced schemes can be selected, not low-level schemes.

After creation, you can see that restoring is in progress. All we can do is wait. Because the completion time needs to be determined according to the amount of data in our system.

Third, login after restoration

After the restoration, we can see the IP address, port and password of the new server are those of our original server. We can log in to SSH and open the website (the website resolves to the new IP) to see if it is normal. Lao Zuo can log in normally after the test, but it seems that some netizens mentioned that he cannot access the Internet, so he needs to modify the ifcfg-eth0 network adapter file.

In a word, we need to wait for normal use before deleting the original machine. If there is a fault, check it first. Is it a problem with the configuration of the network adapter file or data? Even if there is a problem, we need not be afraid that there is backup data locally or the original machine can be re enabled. At present, snapshot backup is free. We can use this method to back up data or migrate the computer room.
