Forums

All member organizations of The Open Group are entitled to participate in one or more of The Open Group Forums — vendor-neutral environments where members share knowledge and resources, and collaborate on developing open IT standards and certifications.

Collectively addressing a comprehensive range of technical, business, legal and regulatory issues, each Open Group Forum addresses a specific functional area, and is fully supported by The Open Group’s resources. Members’ active participation in The Open Group Forums result in the beneficial exchange of best practices with experts and peers, professional growth, and influence in the competitive environment.

• The number of Forums in which member representatives may participate depends on their organizations’ level of membership:
• Silver Members are entitled to join one Forum and may opt for a second Silver Membership if they wish to join another Forum
• Gold Members are entitled to join any number of Forums open to all members of The Open Group (see list below)
• Platinum Members are entitled to join any number of Forums from the list and may also join Forums reserved for Platinum Members only, which will usually be during the initial phase of such Forum’s life

Work Groups

The Open Group Work Groups are vendor-neutral environments where members share knowledge and resources, and collaborate on developing open IT standards and certifications. Formed at the request of at least two member organizations, most Work Groups are open to all members in addition to their Open Group Forum entitlements, and there is no limit to the number of Work Groups members may join.

The Open Group Work Groups tend to incubate and explore broad-reaching areas of interest, which extend across The Open Group’s main Forum activities and areas of focus. A Work Group may eventually become a Forum, or conclude its lifecycle once exploration and activity is completed.

Members who actively participate in The Open Group Work Groups will benefit from the exchange of best practices with experts and peers, professional growth, and influence in the competitive environment. The Open Group Work Groups welcome the active participation of all members.

US and International Consortia

The Open Group Services for Consortia provide a cost-effective methodology to form and govern consortia involved with the development of standards and certification programs.

With decades of experience and a proven track record of successful standards and certification programs, The Open Group’s experts are well-versed in the formation and governance of consortia and special interest groups. The Open Group’s comprehensive set of consortia services enable us to develop programs tailored to each consortium’s specific needs.

The Open Group partners with organizations to develop, launch and operate certification programs with credibility and maximum market impact. Our internationally recognized and proven process provides a commercially and legally solid foundation for the formation and governance of consortia and special interest groups that accelerates the path to success.

Governing Board Work Groups

As industry leaders, Platinum Members of The Open Group incubate key standards and certification initiatives. At an appropriate time these Work Groups may be opened up to other members.

Industry Verticals

At the request of members, The Open Group convenes global collaboratives intended to set Enterprise Architecture standards for various industry verticals.

International research has shown that Enterprise Architecture confers long-term competitive advantages; and that companies which execute their strategy in line with Enterprise Architecture principles are more competitive and more profitable than their competitors. They are easily able to accommodate change, enter new territories, complete mergers and acquisitions, and maximize return on IT expenditures.

Other areas Enterprise Architecture helps verticals to address include:

• The IT skills shortage, by encapsulating existing knowledge
• Business and solution complexity
• Regulatory and reporting requirements
• The critical need for an integrated approach to safety, health, environment and quality

The Open Group facilitates the approach to setting standards in these verticals, providing the industry with a reliable assurance of interoperability and conformance to vendor-neutral IT standards.

Public Projects

The Open Group hosts a number of projects in which anyone may participate. These include open source projects, and open specification development projects.
