Fastmail is an e-mail service company with its headquarters in Melbourne, Australia. Fastmail provides a secure, reliable, and highly customizable e-mail solution that can meet the needs of various users.

Fastmail is not free, nor is there a free package, the cheapest package 3 $/month , new users can try for one month. Recently, I spent $50 to subscribe to the standard package of Fastmail for one year to share my personal experience.

Register Fastmail

Registered address: https://ref.fm/u29508080 (10% off for the whole year if you register through this link)

The registration page supports Chinese, and multiple mailbox suffixes are available, as shown below.

After registration, you will enjoy a 30 day professional trial by default.

Fastmail Price

Fastmail provides three paid versions, namely the basic version (3 $/month), the standard version (5 $/month), and the professional version (9 $/month). The functions of different versions are different. If you want to use your own custom domain name, you need the standard version or the professional version to support it.

In order to use the function of custom domain name, xiaoz paid 50 dollars to subscribe to the standard version of Fastmail service for one year.

Custom domain name

After subscribing to the standard version, you can use the custom domain name. Open "Settings - Add or Purchase Domain Name"

Xiaoz already has his own domain name, select "Use the existing domain name"

Enter your domain name, click Continue, and you will be prompted to add resolution records such as MX/TXT. You can add resolution to the DNS service provider according to the prompt and wait for it to take effect.

Here I encountered a problem. I have added the corresponding resolution record according to the requirements of Fastmail, but after waiting for several days, his detection is still invalid.

I suspect there is a bug in his detection program, because I actually use it dig The command test is effective, and all the emails sent and received by using the added domain name mailbox are normal, so I left him alone.

Convenient mail alias function

Users of any version can use the mail alias service. With this service, you can generate multiple alias mailboxes (up to 600).

Just click "Settings - My E-mail Address - Enter the alias you want to set - Then select the desired mailbox domain name suffix" and click "Continue" to add.

The mail alias has the following benefits, such as:

  1. Improve privacy protection : By using aliases, you can avoid exposing your main e-mail address where you need to provide an e-mail address, which helps protect your privacy and reduce the reception of spam.

  2. Organize and categorize messages : You can create specific aliases for specific purposes. For example, you may have an alias dedicated to receiving bills, and another alias for subscribing to newsletters. This will help you better manage and organize your mail.

  3. Improve security : If one of your aliases is disclosed or abused, you can easily disable or delete it without affecting your main email address.

  4. Flexible management : Aliases can be added or deleted at any time without creating a new e-mail account. This provides great flexibility in managing e-mail.

  5. Adapt to different identities and roles If you use the same email address in your work and personal life, but want to distinguish between the two roles of email, using an alias is a good solution. You can create an alias for work-related messages and another alias for personal messages.

  6. Filtering and sorting : Many email services allow you to set filters based on aliases, so that you can automatically move messages from a specific alias to a specified folder, or mark them as read, and so on.

Fastmail account restrictions

From the official Fastmail document: Account-limits I learned about some account restrictions.

It is roughly sorted out as follows:

  • Standard version and above can add up to 100 domain names
  • For all versions, the mailbox alias is limited to 600
  • The standard version is limited to 8000 messages per day
  • The standard version limits the number of messages sent per hour to 4000
  • The standard version limits the number of messages sent within 10 minutes to 2000

More specific restrictions can be compared by clicking the above link.

Compare with ZOHO Mail

Before Fastmail, I had used the Lite version of Zoho Mail for more than a year, which cost only $12 per year. Zoho Mail has more advantages in terms of price. However, the Zoho Mail interface is very cumbersome, integrating a lot of services that are not needed at home.

Although I paid to purchase the Zoho Mail Lite version, if the number of messages sent is too large, it will still be restricted. The specific restrictions seem unclear (not found in the official documentation).

At present, Zoho Mail Lite and Fastmail are both used by me. From the perspective of email experience alone, Fastmail is more comfortable, easier to use, and the interface is very smooth.

If your budget is limited, you can try Zoho Mail Lite, ZOHO Mail Lite: https://go.zoho.com/Csx It also supports adding multiple domain names and mailbox aliases.

epilogue

If you need a paid email service, I think Fastmail is a good choice. However, please note that if you need to customize your domain name, you need to subscribe to the standard or professional version. The experience of Fastmail is very good, but the price is a little expensive for individual users.
