[Milan, Italy, June 25, 2018] Fastweb and Huawei cooperated to complete the deployment of the first flexible optical network. The network covers Milan and South Sicily, with a distance of more than 2300km. Its 200G and ASON capabilities ensure the reliability and continuity of services.
In September 2017, Fastweb began to cooperate with Huawei and launched the first next-generation flexible optical network, with an initial transmission capacity of 2 Tbps, covering more than 2000 kilometers in Italy. In November 2017, Fastweb deployed no trunk 100G between Milan and South Sicily ASON business spans more than 2300km. In January 2018, 200G without relay was realized between Milan and Rome ASON service, with a distance of more than 800 kilometers. At present, the flexible optical network is also connected to the most important data center and undersea land station in Italy, and these services are both for the wholesale market and the enterprise market.
ASON technology can quickly restore services through flexible and automatic rerouting function in case of temporary failure, so that Fastweb can provide customers with multiple levels of differentiated services, ultra-high speed connections and high-quality services. ASON provides the reliability, flexibility and robustness required for the next generation optical transmission, while achieving business differentiation and reducing network construction and operation and maintenance costs. ASON also provides functions such as real-time on-demand network resource allocation, end-to-end service scheduling, and automatic network recovery to realize intelligent operation of optical networks.
"The total capacity of Fastweb flexible optical network has quadrupled in less than nine months, exceeding 8 Tbps。 This makes us firmly believe in the quality and performance of the network, and at the same time, it also proves that the network itself and its distribution and guarantee process are highly flexible, realizing the simplification, reliability and scalability of the network. It is the cornerstone of a new era of delivery services. " Andrea, Chief Technology Officer, Fastweb Lasagna said, "Through long-term cooperation with Huawei, we will continue to evolve towards strategic 400G and SDN automation to fully support the future 5G era. We are currently in the pilot phase of SDN, focusing first on rapid distribution, automation and forecasting capabilities."
Jin Yuzhi, president of Huawei transmission network product line, said, "We are very honored to build a 200G backbone network with Italy Fastweb. The backbone network is based on 200G ASON, which supports the evolution to smart and simple networks, can support fast growing cloud services and future 5G and 4K video services in a reliable, fast and agile manner. At present, we have deployed more than 70 200G optical networks around the world. "
The network uses Huawei's leading CDCG backbone OTN WDM technology, including optical layer ASON, electrical layer ASON, programmable 100G/200G, Flex Grid, and built-in OTDR, to achieve visual operation and maintenance and real-time management of network wide fiber resources and service quality, improving efficiency from both technical and economic aspects.
