Customer testimony

”Management security service is a service that customers urgently need, and it is also a high-yield market. By applying Huawei's Anti DDoS solution, Serverius has successfully entered the management security service market and achieved good results. Huawei's Anti DDoS solution has a high-performance API interface. After being rapidly integrated by our management platform tool Toolbox, it has realized automatic management and reporting functions. At present, DDoS traffic cleaning service has become one of the three main businesses of Serverius. "

Customer introduction

The Netherlands is known as the most free and open country in the world. It has the world's largest port and gathers trade goods from all over the world. As early as the 17th century, it was known as the "coachman on the sea". Since the 20th century, the network world has developed rapidly. The Netherlands still occupies an important position in the network world. Amsterdam is one of the backbone network nodes in Europe. It is precisely because of its open and free cultural background and unique geographical and network resources that the Netherlands attracts investment and participation from companies from all over the world. It is one of the two hot spots of European data centers, with many multinational companies and hundreds of business data centers.

Serverius is a rising star among Dutch data center operators. As we all know, the Netherlands is the country with the lowest altitude in the world, and one third of its land area is below the sea level. If a data center is built below the sea level, the risk of being attacked by sea water will be greatly increased, while if a data center is built above the sea level, its construction and operation costs will be greatly increased. In order to provide customers with more efficient and secure data centers, Serverius has built two data center computer rooms higher than sea level, which can also achieve disaster recovery backup in different places in the same city and greatly improve the reliability of disaster prevention and backup. In terms of interconnection network services, the two major data centers of Serverius are directly connected to the backbone nodes in Europe - Amsterdam and Frankfurt. The services it provides are famous for efficient and fast transmission services. Because of this, in the past few years, Serverius business has developed rapidly and its scale has been expanding, and it has successfully become one of the top 5 data center service providers in the Netherlands. It has served more than 2000 corporate customers worldwide, and has become a rising star in the local data center operation industry.

Customer Challenge

Serverius: Continuous security challenges

The network attacks on the Internet have never stopped, and in recent years have become more and more intense. For example, the global large-scale DDoS attack in 2013 interrupted Spamhaus' anti spam service business, causing the entire European network to slow down for a week; In 2014, the peak value of DDoS attacks refreshed to 400G, and the attack mode and frequency increased exponentially. In the face of the harsh network security environment, the Serverius data center has also faced unprecedented challenges. Since 2013, on average, there have been network attacks on customers' businesses every day. Most of the time of operation and maintenance personnel has been occupied to deal with sudden network attacks, leading to extended working hours and increased operation and maintenance costs; At the same time, business interruption also led to an increase in customer complaints and churn, which ultimately led to a decline in the operational data of Serverius.

Solution

Analyze the status quo and quickly formulate "safety policies"

Serverius quickly carried out an analysis of the current status of operations and network security events, and found that 100% of the lost customers were dissatisfied with the service due to network attacks. For example, a multi-year old user with an annual sales of more than one million euros frequently suffered multiple DDoS attacks within a month, resulting in huge business losses, and finally terminated the cooperation with Serverius. To learn from the pain, Serverius actively communicated with well-known peers in the industry, and found that data center operators with rapid growth in operating revenue in recent years are carrying out security value-added services. On the one hand, it can protect customer business continuity in the environment of frequent security incidents; On the other hand, it can reverse the situation of fierce competition and declining profits in the traditional data center industry, improve its competitiveness with value-added security services, and increase operating income. In the Netherlands, less than 15% of data center operators are providing security operation services, and the service level needs to be improved. When Serverius saw the opportunity, it quickly constructed its own "security protection operation plan" and began to customize its own security protection operation scheme. This scheme needs the following capabilities:

First, the scheme that users can "customize" is a combination of basic protection and operational schemes, which can be quickly integrated by the existing operating platform of Serverius.

Second, the "effective protection" scheme, that is, it can be enabled for scheduling when needed, without affecting the business of normal users, and can customize refined protection strategies according to different customers/applications.

Third, it is scalable and can be automatically scheduled to reduce the high operation and maintenance costs.

Serverius has a self-developed operating platform Toolbox, through which Serverius can automatically schedule, configure and report existing servers, networks and businesses. The security protection scheme should be able to be quickly integrated into the scheme and automatically managed by the toolbox. The security scheme involves network security, application security and data security. The security scheme and operation and maintenance skills required by different security protection layers are also different.

DDoS attack is the biggest threat to the business continuity of the data center and one of the most commonly used attacks by hackers. Such attacks are highly perceived by users, and the industry has more mature protection schemes. Using the experience of peers, user demands and the reserve of self-protection technicians for reference, Serverius finally chose the DDoS security protection operation business as the beginning of opening its data center security protection service business, and carried out exchanges, POC and deployment plans with well-known DDoS protection manufacturers in the industry.

Three well-known DDoS protection manufacturers in the industry have carried out communication with Serverius one after another. In the end, Huawei's solution stood out and was recognized by customers with its flexible deployment mode, strong protection performance, and precise protection capability. Huawei's solution adopts packet by packet depth detection technology. Through the unique big data analysis platform algorithm, it can establish more than 60 dimensions of traffic models for business traffic. If any dimension changes slightly, it can respond quickly; At the same time, the scheme integrates global IP reputation and fingerprint identification technology, and can quickly respond to various DDoS attacks; In addition, the solution also has an open API interface, which can realize the rapid connection with the Serverius management platform and meet the customized operation requirements of Serverius.

Customer income

After the successful deployment of Huawei's Anti DDoS solution, after more than a year of operation practice, the time for serverius data center to deal with security emergencies has been greatly reduced. The data protection report shows that China has successfully prevented more than 40000 DDoS attacks for the Anti DDoS scheme in one year, and the peak protection attack traffic has exceeded 200Gbps. More importantly, it has helped Serverius realize the double growth of user scale and revenue, which has greatly exceeded Serverius' expectations.
