Introduction: Xu Xiangde graduated from Nanjing Meteorological College in 1968 and obtained a master's degree in 1979. From 1987 to 1988, he was engaged in numerical prediction model and theoretical research at the University of Miami, USA. From 1990 to 1992, he served as the deputy chief engineer of Tianjin Meteorological Bureau. Since 1992, he has successively served as Director and Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences. In 2009, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

He has successively served as a member and director of the China Committee of Global Water Partners, a member of the CEOP International Field Observation Design, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Atmospheric Environment Expert Group, the chairman and executive director of the Chinese Field Statistics Society, the Chinese Society of Computational Physics, the editorial board member of the SCI international "Boundary Layer Weather Journal", "Computational Physics", and part-time professor of Lanzhou University.

Xu Xiangde has long been engaged in the research of weather and climate dynamics, nonlinear theoretical models and atmospheric environment, presided over and implemented a number of major comprehensive scientific experiments of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, and is the chief scientist or project executive of major programs, including the "Eighth Five Year Plan" tackling project "Yellow River Rainstorm Scientific Experiment", the national climbing project "Tibetan Plateau Observation and Theoretical Research", and the "Ninth Five Year Plan" The key research project "Research on Agrometeorological Disaster Prevention Technology", the first phase of meteorological science data sharing project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, the "973" project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China, the research project on urban atmospheric environment, and the major plan of the JICA project of Sino Japanese intergovernmental technical cooperation, the new generation of plateau monitoring and early warning project, etc. Its achievements have won national, provincial and ministerial awards for many times. A total of 50 domestic and foreign SCI papers were published, including 21 papers published as the first author in SCI journals in the past decade, 129 papers published in core journals, 8 monographs and 9 editors. The achievement was invited twice by the relevant American science press as the main author of internationally published monographs.
