At about 2:01 on May 1, the expressway pavement collapse disaster occurred near K11+900m (about 2km from the exit of Chayang section) from Dapu to Fujian on Meida Expressway. Subsequently, the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission made a rapid deployment and sent many batches of provincial experts to Meizhou to guide the treatment of the wounded.

At noon on May 2, Nanfang+reporters interviewed a number of medical experts in Meizhou People's Hospital to learn about the rescue work. According to experts, 30 injured people mainly suffered from bone injury, craniocerebral injury and pulmonary contusion, of which 28 were treated in Meizhou People's Hospital and 2 were hospitalized in Dapu County People's Hospital. At present, all the wounded are in stable condition and not in danger of life.

Xu Zhe, Head of Pediatric Surgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat sen University

South+: When did the medical experts at the provincial level arrive at the scene?

Wen Miaoyun: After receiving the order at 10:00 a.m. on May 1, Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital assembled four key doctors to arrive in Meizhou by helicopter within 15 minutes, and then went straight to the hospital for treatment of severe patients after landing. At present, the wounded in Meizhou People's Hospital are mainly bone injury, brain injury and lung contusion. In the evening of the first day and the morning of the second day, the medical team made rounds and summarized the patients' conditions, and put forward suggestions for further diagnosis and treatment.

South+: Why are experts in orthopaedics, neurosurgery, severe medicine and pediatric surgery arranged?

Wen Miaoyun: There are two main considerations in selecting experts. First, send corresponding specialists according to the situation of injuries in similar disasters. Second, before we arrived at the scene, the People's Hospital of Dapu County and Meizhou People's Hospital had classified the wounded. According to the situation of the wounded and the deployment of the Provincial Health Commission, the hospital sent corresponding specialists to meet the treatment needs.

Xu Zhe: The casualties in this disaster are mainly complex injuries, mainly manifested as brain trauma, lung trauma, fracture, etc., so the diagnosis and treatment of the injured by experts in critical and extramental conditions is very important. There were quite a few wounded people younger than 18 years old in the disaster, so experts in pediatric surgery were also sent here. We arrived at Meizhou People's Hospital at about 12:00 p.m. on May 1, and then discussed a critical case with experts. We left the hospital at about 1:30 a.m. on May 2.

South+: Can you talk about the situation of the wounded in charge?

Xu Zhe: At about 7:30 this morning, we started a professional ward round in the hospital. While paying attention to whether there were any missing examinations for the injured, we gave them a score of the severity of the injury according to the international scoring standards to assess the prognosis.

One of my tasks is to treat two small wounded in pediatric surgery. One minor injury was mainly the contusion of the right lung, and the other suffered from facial abrasion, rib fracture and slightly high amylase. But on the whole, the two little wounded were in good condition and in stable mental state. At present, in order to better stabilize the mental status of all the wounded, the Guangdong Provincial Health Commission has also specially invited a psychologist for psychological counseling to help them better channel their emotions.

South+: How is "one person, one project" implemented? How to treat mild and severe patients respectively?

Wen Miaoyun: Before the arrival of the provincial experts, the rescue team of Meizhou People's Hospital, under the joint guidance of the local health bureau and the provincial health commission, has organized the form of "one person, one project" in the hospital, that is, to set up an expert team to rescue a patient. Specifically, it depends on what diseases the wounded are mainly. If it is bone injury, the medical treatment team will set up a medical and nursing team focusing on orthopedics to carry out special treatment.

Experts from different disciplines will cooperate according to the situation of the wounded at the rescue site. For example, orthopedic experts will set up an expert group to be responsible for the treatment of bone injuries, and set up a team leader for unified scheduling. In addition, while ensuring that each specialist has its own area of responsibility, we will also provide better treatment for the wounded through cross ward rounds and other forms.

Meizhou People's Hospital: According to the severity of the condition, the hospital has equipped a medical team for each injured person, and even specially coordinated administrative personnel. For minor injuries, the doctor in charge and the nurse in charge of the bed form a special shift for the injured. For relatively complicated injuries, the corresponding specialist of the hospital will send experts, and the provincial specialist will also join the team for consultation and treatment.

South+: What are the next treatment arrangements?

Xu Zhe: For some patients with compound injuries, we will invite the expert group to discuss their condition and provide them with treatment plans. The situation of the wounded is basically stable and good. This afternoon, we had another centralized injury assessment with experts from the National Health Commission.

Meizhou People's Hospital: Many batches of experts have been arranged in the province to treat together. Some patients who looked relatively heavy yesterday have stabilized after treatment and examination today. In general, the condition of the wounded in hospital has been controlled and is developing steadily.
