The spokesman of the Foreign Ministry answered questions about the statement of US Secretary of State Lincoln on Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly.

Q: On May 1, US Secretary of State Brinken issued a statement saying that the US side strongly encourages the WHO Invitation Desk to participate in this year's WHO Assembly as an observer. What is China's comment on this?

A: The relevant statements of the US side seriously violate the one China principle and the three Sino US joint communiques. China expresses its strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this.

There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. On the issue of Taiwan's participation in international organizations, including the activities of WHO, China's position is consistent and clear, that is, it must be handled in accordance with the one China principle, which is also the fundamental principle confirmed by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 2758 and the World Health Assembly resolution 25.1. The DPP authorities stubbornly adhere to the separatist position of "Taiwan independence", leading to the loss of the political basis for Taiwan's participation in the World Health Assembly. The US statement confuses the public and is in essence conniving at separatist activities in support of "Taiwan independence".

The Taiwan issue is the core of China's core interests and the first impassable red line in China US relations. We once again urge the US side to abide by the one China principle and the three Sino US joint communiques, abide by international law and the basic norms of international relations, implement the commitments made by the US leaders not to support "Taiwan independence", not to support "two Chinas", "one China, one Taiwan" and other commitments into action, stop hyping Taiwan related issues through the World Health Assembly, and not send the wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.

The one China principle, which is widely supported by the international community, is the popular aspiration of the people and the trend of the times. It cannot be denied or stopped. Any attempt to play the "Taiwan card" and engage in "Taiwan dominated China" will be firmly opposed by the international community and doomed to failure.
