scarecrow

One day, the farmer said to the scarecrow, "You are always watching alone in this lonely land. You must be tired of it, aren't you?"

"It is a deep and lasting pleasure to make others afraid, and I will never be tired of it." The scarecrow replied.

The farmer bowed his head and pondered, then said, "It is true, because I can also understand the pleasure."

"Only those who fill their bodies with straw can appreciate the pleasure," he said.

So the farmer walked away, not knowing whether these words were compliment or contempt. A year later, the scarecrow became a philosopher. When the farmer walked past him again, he saw two crows nesting under his hat.

[Small story, big principle: everyone is eager to be recognized by others. No one wants to be alone forever.]
