CCTV News: In order to seek diversified development, Brunei has put forward the "2035 Vision" development strategy, which is connected with China's "Belt and Road" initiative. Hengyi Brunei Petrochemical Project came into being as the times require, becoming a key project of cooperation between the two countries and the largest foreign direct investment project in Brunei in recent years.

On the tranquil Brunei Bay, a cross sea bridge like a white dragon connects Greater Mora Island with the land. On the land side, there are bustling docks; On the other side of Grand Mora Island, Hengyi Brunei Petrochemical Project is under construction.

Reporter: "Before 2012, this was a desert island, full of marshes, without any residents. After several years of construction, a modern factory has begun to take shape here. Such a big change has also made local people pay more attention to this project."

William, a Brunei employee: "I have worked in this enterprise for 5 years, and the construction of the Chinese team is really fast."

As a key project of Brunei's "Belt and Road", Hengyi Brunei Petrochemical Project has actually invested 3.45 billion US dollars (about 23.9 billion yuan) in the first phase, and the first phase of the project with a crude oil processing capacity of 8 million tons is about to be completed and put into operation. The local media said that the development of downstream industries in the oil and gas industry has contributed to Brunei's economic development, which is in line with Brunei's "2035 ambition" strategy. Hengyi Brunei Petrochemical Project is a milestone.

Chinese enterprises train professionals for the local

In the process of promoting the development of Brunei's oil and gas industry chain, Chinese enterprises found that they were faced with the reality that professionals were hard to find locally. "It is better to teach people how to fish than to teach people how to fish." A plan to train professionals for Brunei was launched with the implementation of the cooperation project.

Chen Liancai, CEO of Hengyi Industry (Brunei) Co., Ltd.: "Hengyi Scholarship will select a group of students from the sophomore students of Brunei University to go to Zhejiang University for one and a half years of professional courses related to chemical engineering."

Since 2014, six groups of students have been trained in this tripartite professional talents joint training program in the past four years. Zhong Mingfang, 22, is a Brunei Chinese. As a member of the third batch of training projects, she graduated successfully at the end of August this year and joined this large-scale petrochemical project.

Zhong Mingfang, a Brunei employee, said, "When I first came to work on this construction site, I felt how there could be such a large refinery in my country. I finally saw these container equipment in the book in reality."

Yang Shihan, a Brunei employee, said, "I'm very excited that we can start piling in a petrochemical project until all the towers are erected. I think this opportunity may only be once in a lifetime."

Environmental protection first, Chinese enterprises create green projects

While cultivating professionals for Brunei, the Chinese team also adheres to the concept of environmental protection first, and strives to build green petrochemical projects through leading technology. Therefore, during the construction process, the sulfur recovery combined unit, which is used for centralized recovery of waste water and waste gas, is prioritized for completion.

After the completion of Hengyi Brunei Petrochemical Project, it is expected to create 4000 direct jobs and tens of thousands of indirect jobs. China's cooperation projects not only bring development opportunities, but also really benefit local people.
