On the 16th, South Korea and North Korea held an aviation practice meeting at the Korea DPRK Joint Liaison Office in Kaesong, where the DPRK proposed to open international routes through the eastern and western waters of the Korean Peninsula.

According to the information provided by the Ministry of Land, Land and Transport of the Republic of Korea after the meeting, the two sides believe that this is the first aviation meeting between the North and the South, which is of great significance. With regard to the DPRK's proposal to open new international routes, the ROK said that it would hold further discussions through talks between the aviation departments of both sides.

The ROK also said that the ROK and the DPRK will continue to consult on various cooperation issues in the aviation field in the future.

According to the South Korean Unification Ministry, the representatives of the South Korean side attending the meeting on the same day were five officials led by Sun Mingxiu, head of the Aviation Policy Office of the South Korean Ministry of Land and Transport, and the representatives of the North Korean side were five officials led by Li Yongxuan, deputy general director of the Korean Civil Aviation Administration.

South Korea once opened an international air route connecting Incheon to the Americas via North Korea's airspace, but after the Cheonan incident in 2010, the South Korean government took a series of sanctions against North Korea, and the route was forced to be interrupted.
