Honmanai said that a fire broke out in the ammunition depot of a military base in Kampong Speu Province at about 2:30 p.m. local time, which then triggered an explosion, killing 20 soldiers and injuring several others. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and the wounded.

Sang Sangwen, the police chief of Kampong Speu Province, said in an interview that the cause of the incident was under investigation and the losses caused were still being counted.
