The information society is inseparable from data storage. Finance, telecommunications, the Internet and other industries need highly reliable and secure mass storage systems. She went on to say, "However, China has long been under the control of others in the field of storage technology. In the 1990s, when I was studying for my doctorate, I found that the storage systems and storage devices on the market were monopolized by foreign countries, and none of them were 'made in China'."
Memory and storage system are carriers of data, which are related to the security of digital economy industry and national security. In 2004, Feng Dan served as the chief scientist of the National 973 Program (National Key Basic Research and Development Program), leading the team to "soak" in the laboratory day and night, racing against the clock, day and night, marching towards the most advanced mass storage system, just to catch up in this field. The research period of the project is five years in total. The PB storage system built by the team in only two years has reached the international advanced level, ranking among the top four in the international storage competition.

Feng Dan introduced that she and her team continue to tackle key problems in core technology on the one hand, and are committed to promoting the localization of storage equipment on the other.
Relying on the National 863 Program (National High tech Research and Development Program), Feng Dan served as the overall expert group leader of the mass storage major project, and many large Internet technology enterprises participated in it. The deep integration of industry, university, research and application has broken the monopoly of foreign high-end storage systems and their core key technologies, and achieved the leap from technology dependence to independent innovation in China's storage industry, The achievement won the second prize of the National Technological Invention Award. "At present, the share of domestic storage systems in the domestic market has grown from less than 5% before the establishment of the project to more than 60% today," Feng Danxin said happily.
"National demand is the direction of scientific researchers' efforts." She said that today, the memory chips that constitute the storage system are still weak. She and her team are determined to do "indomitable" research, and are establishing joint laboratories with many leading domestic enterprises to jointly research and develop the next generation of memory with faster speed and lower energy consumption, In the future, it will fundamentally solve the "choke" problem of domestic memory chips.
