This shows that the relevant departments of the state have made remarkable achievements in controlling smoking scenes in film and television dramas. This is necessary. Smoking is harmful to health and has become a common sense of health. In particular, tobacco is the first risk factor for myocardial infarction and sudden death.

World No Tobacco Day has just passed. A few days ago, the China Association for Tobacco Control released the monitoring results of tobacco scenes in popular domestic films and TV plays in 2019, which showed that compared with 2007, the number of films and TV plays with tobacco scenes showed a downward trend. Movies dropped by 15.5% and TV dramas by 33%; On average, the number and duration of tobacco scenes in each film and TV play are on the decline.

This year, the COVID-19 epidemic has swept the world. A large number of clinical research data from WHO and other countries show that smokers become critical patients of COVID-19 and have a higher risk of death. Li Lanjuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and an expert in infectious diseases, also said that smoking and second-hand smoke seriously damage the lungs and health, and smokers have an increased risk of developing severe and critical diseases after contracting COVID-19.

Therefore, smoking control is an effective means to prolong life. The theme of this year's World No Tobacco Day is "Protecting Young People". Some experts have said that more than half of Chinese smokers start smoking before the age of 20, and one incentive for teenagers to smoke is the smoking scenes in the mass media, especially in popular TV dramas.

In recent years, the "exposure rate" of tobacco in the mass media has declined year by year. However, with the help of the smoke puffing scenes in some popular TV dramas, especially the smoking scenes of star idols, the harmfulness of smoking has not only not been revealed, but has instead become a symbol linked to fashion, cool, independent and social. Through the cooperation of the plot, it has imperceptibly guided teenagers to imitate and follow, and it is not too much to say to encourage them in disguised form.

The monitoring of the Tobacco Control Association shows that smoking scenes are decreasing, but it also shows that 73.3% of films and 60.0% of TV dramas have tobacco scenes, respectively. In addition, the target group of online TV dramas and online movies that have sprung up in recent years is teenagers. Among them, smoking scenes are comparable to those of films and TV dramas through traditional channels.

Today, with the implementation of the Healthy China Strategy, and against the backdrop of the country's special tobacco control action, reducing the number of film and television tobacco scenes is the social responsibility of film and television creators, and should become the hard target and the hard truth. By reducing or gradually eliminating smoking scenes and tobacco advertisements in film and television plays, we can further purify film and television plays and widely publicize the harm of tobacco, which is conducive to guiding young people to establish a correct outlook on life, values and health concepts, develop good living habits, and stay away from tobacco.

One less smoking scene may reduce 10 teenagers' desire to smoke. Why not?
