In 2018, Ebola, the first feature film co produced by China and an African country (Ghana), was signed and launched in Beijing. The film tells the story of Chinese medical teams carrying out rescue in West African countries when Ebola virus ravaged Africa in 2014.
"The dispatch of medical teams has not been interrupted since 1963," Gao Weizhong, director of the Center for International Exchange and Cooperation of the National Health Commission of China, said in an interview with the media, "I'm afraid that the health cooperation projects that have not been interrupted for about 55 years in the world are (only) the dispatch of medical teams from China to Africa."
In 1976, the Tazara Railway, which was built with China's assistance, was completed and opened to traffic. This project, with the highest single amount of Chinese assistance in Africa, became a strong witness of China Africa friendship. The opening of the Tazara Railway has made important contributions to Zambia's efforts to break through the colonial and apartheid racial blockade and support the development of the national independence movement in southern Africa, and has also established a profound friendship foundation between China and Africa. After 41 years, China proposed to upgrade the Tazara Railway in 2017. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that when the Chinese and African people were able to build the Tazara Railway under such difficult conditions, today we have no reason not to make it run faster and play a greater role.
Since the 1950s, China has launched a training program for aid to Africa and launched human resources development cooperation with a few African countries that had just become independent at that time. This huge project has gone through more than 60 years. Data shows that since 2000, China has helped Africa build more than 120 educational facilities, sent more than 7000 medical personnel and more than 2000 agricultural experts, and trained more than 80000 various talents for more than 50 countries and regional organizations in Africa. Through training and sharing China's experience, China has trained a large number of talents for African countries and enhanced their independent development capacity.
China Africa cooperation has come all the way from a glorious history, and sincere friendship has brought mutual benefit and win-win results.
In the face of the new global situation and common challenges, China and Africa will not forget their original intentions and forge ahead firmly.
Although peace and development are still the themes of our times, hegemonism and power politics still exist, protectionism and unilateralism continue to rise, traditional and non-traditional security issues are intertwined, and international economic cooperation has reached a new crossroads. At this moment, China, as the largest developing country, and African countries, all of which are developing countries, should join hands to strengthen cooperation, meet challenges, and be brave and good at answering the era's proposition of peace and development.
