Since WordPress5.0 at the end of 2018, the classic editor has been replaced by the block editor. At the beginning, the official said that the classic editor would remain in the program until December 31, 2021. Users can choose by switching plug-ins or codes. It has been almost six years now.
Will the classic editor be removed from the WordPress core program?
This question is not easy to answer. I didn't see the official explanation.
Since WordPress strongly promoted the block editor, it has further developed the block gadget editor, site editor, etc. These visual editors really have many advantages, allowing users to edit every element of the page, but they are basically useless for ordinary users who only publish articles through the website. It is commonly used to the editing interface similar to WORD, which only needs to add a picture and at most a subtitle while editing text. Apart from increasing learning costs and troubles, other functions are rarely used. In addition, the block editor runs slowly when the network speed is not good. The tedious operation interferes with the idea and cannot focus on the content of the article. Compared with the professional page builder, the custom function is limited and cannot meet certain specific needs.
From the scoring of Gutenberg and classic editor plug-ins, we can see that everyone generally likes the former with two stars and the latter with five stars. Many of the former's reviewers are one star directly. If there is a negative score, it may be - 100 directly, while the latter is all five stars. Many users said that "when you remove the classic editor, it is time to give up WordPress". There are more than just WP website programs in the world, and there are many options.
Maybe only developers can feel the fun of block editor design.
The classic editor has been retained for another 6 years. Will it be removed from the core?
Personally, I don't think so, or I won't in many years' time. I may keep two sets of editors coexist.
Giving up the classic editor completely is WordPress's self destruction.
Are developers intoxicated or do they choose to retain users? The answer is obvious.
Most of the articles on this site are original and used for personal learning records, which may be helpful to you, for reference only!
