Treatment method of soft foundation of small and medium-sized bridges and culverts
When the road route encounters obstacles such as rivers, lakes, deep valleys and other routes, various types of bridge (beam), culvert (tunnel) structures must be built to maintain the continuity of the road and give full play to its normal transportation capacity. The Technical Standards for Highway Engineering issued by the Ministry of Communications stipulates that medium and small bridges and culverts should follow the direction of the route, so the position of bridges and culverts cannot be changed at will. When building bridges on soft soil foundation, the more troublesome problem encountered is the lack of bearing capacity of natural foundation. However, the bridge foundation requires that the foundation should have sufficient bearing capacity to meet the required settlement deformation,. When the foundation is buried 25cm below the freezing line and 1m below the scouring line, in case of soft foundation, in order to ensure that the bearing layer has sufficient strength and that the medium and small bridges will not be inclined and damaged due to uneven settlement, in addition to the correct design (light piers and abutments are often used, such as buttress, embedded abutment and column pier), reinforcement measures should also be taken for the soft foundation.
