The Yellow River Iron Bridge is located at the foot of Baita Mountain in the north of Lanzhou and in front of Jincheng Pass. It is known as the first bridge of the Yellow River in the world and is one of the landmark buildings in Lanzhou. Before the completion of the iron bridge, there was a floating bridge across the Yellow River. The pontoon bridge was built in the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty. It is called Zhenyuan Bridge. Today, there is still an iron pillar used to build the bridge, which is up to three meters high and weighs several tons. It has the words of the ninth year of Hongwu on it. In the 33rd year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, the floating bridge was changed into an iron bridge, which was the first iron bridge on the upper reaches of the Yellow River.
