There are several possible causes of stabbing pain in the head: first, neuralgia, mainly including trigeminal neuralgia, glossopharyngeal neuralgia, and great occipital neuralgia. The patients usually show severe pain like acupuncture and knife cutting. Most of the trigeminal neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia are caused by microvascular compression and demyelinating neuropathy. The greater occipital neuralgia is usually caused by compression of cervical spondylosis and herpes zoster virus infection. Second, it can be seen in patients with migraine. Migraine is usually closely related to excessive fatigue, mental tension, environmental factors, hormone levels, and climate factors.
