Without encountering complicated and difficult strata, a shield machine will dig an average of 3 kilometers every year. The main shield drivers have been employed for 3 to 5 years, and most of them choose to change their jobs later. Mu Yongqi, 38, is an exception. He has been the main shield driver of China Railway Tunnel Bureau Group for more than 10 years.

In recent years, he began to manage tunnel construction projects, and most of the time he was still in the front line. Due to different projects, the shield machines used and the stratum conditions encountered may be different. He always keeps looking forward to and curious about this, and does not want to miss the opportunity to deal with new equipment and stratum. He teased himself: "I have spent more time with the shield machine than with anyone else."

Footprints of "Master"

Home in Cangxi, Sichuan, phone home is Ningbo, Zhejiang, social platform address is Zhengzhou, Henan, and innovation studio is located in Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Chengdu, Tibet. Over the years, Mother Yongqi has traveled all over the country.

My colleagues call Mother Yongqi a "master". He has successively participated in the construction of subways in Ningbo, Zhengzhou, Chengdu and other cities, Shiziyang Tunnel of Foshan Dongguan Intercity Railway, Shenzhen Chunfeng Tunnel and so on. He is one of the few experts in China who fully master the mainstream shield machine types for tunnel construction.

During the construction of Ningbo Metro Line 1, the shield machine must pass through railway bridges, cultural relics and other areas, and the ground subsidence must be controlled within 4mm. According to the technology at that time, the settlement was controlled within 10 mm, which reached the international advanced level, but Mu Yongqi and the technicians finally controlled the settlement within 2 mm.

In the Foguang Intercity Lot 3 project, one imported shield cutter was used for 68000 yuan, and only 20 rings of tunneling reached the wear limit. Mother Yongqi cooperated with domestic manufacturers to improve domestic cutters and developed 19 inch split double edge inlaid hobs, which reduced the cost to 50000 yuan and increased the service life to 60 ring tunneling for one tool change.

Over the past 10 years, 36 technological innovations led by Mu Yongqi have achieved results, overcome technical problems such as settlement control of soft soil layer, improvement of sandy stratum shield tunneling slag, construction of large-diameter underwater railway shield tunnels, and created economic benefits of more than 10 million yuan.

The National May Day Labor Medal, the National Technical Expert, the National Young Position Expert, and the 2022 "Great Power Craftsman of the Year"... With excellent technology, the honor of Mother Yongqi comes one after another.

The way of tunneling

Shield machines range from hundreds of tons in weight to thousands of tons in weight. They have five major systems, more than 30 subsystems and more than 50000 parts, including hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, fluid and circulation systems. The operation of this "giant" is entirely in the hands of the main shield driver.

In 2010, as soon as she entered the job, Mother Yongqi received the task of "opening the shield machine in three months". He was afraid that he would not learn. At that time, the domestic shield machine market was in the early stage of development and technical training was immature. Mother Yongqi can only rely on a few masters who are responsible for the after-sales technical guidance of the shield machine. He follows them every day to watch, remember and practice.

For Mother Yongqi, the first important node of his career was in 2014, when he participated in the Henan Industrial System Staff Skills Competition and the 8th China Railway Tunnel Group Staff Technical Competition for Shield Operators, and won the first prize. This made him feel that his efforts were not in vain.

Also in the competition, he learned two good habits from his peers. Every time he drove, he had to check the status of the muck and inspect the equipment. The former is to understand the formation changes so as to adjust the operation technology in advance, and the latter is to avoid equipment failure.

These habits affect the improvement of Muyongqi's technology in muck soil improvement, attitude control, emergency operation, etc. If these technologies are not well mastered, it may lead to machine damage, ground subsidence and collapse, tunnel axis deviation and other consequences. "My technical level is very high." Across the screen, Mother Yongqi sounded firm and confident.

"Ingenuity" is endless

During these years of exploration in the deep earth, Mother Yongqi recorded his work experience one by one. Shield machine assembly, system structure analysis, tunneling operation skills, common problems and countermeasures... Reading his notes is like reading a professional book.

While improving technology, confusion and regret also occur. In the deep tunnel, working in a control room of several square meters for 12 consecutive hours every day, it is surrounded by noise, humid and hot air, and disconnected from the outside world. At the beginning of her employment, Mother Yongqi was also attacked by loneliness from time to time, and it is common for her to wipe tears secretly.

Mother Yongqi is used to drawing energy from the older generation of tunnel workers. When my grandfather Han Lifang participated in the construction of the old Chengdu Kunming Railway, he was only 19 years old. That generation of tunnel workers turned the chasm into a thoroughfare by means of "a wind gun, a spade, and a cart". Often thought of here, he added a bit of confidence and strength to advance.

At present, Mother Yongqi wants to do two things. The first is to summarize the problems and solutions previously encountered for your reference. The other is to cultivate talents and change the current situation of "the industry is short of people and can't keep people". He set the goal of bringing out 100 main shield drivers. Now there are 48 main shield drivers under his command.
