Imagify It's a WordPress image compression plug-in , providing lossy compression function. and EWWW Image Optimizer The free version can only perform lossless image compression, and the compression ratio is not large. 2. Imagify Settings

You need to register an account on the official website of Imagify, obtain the API key, enter it into the background of Imagify, and it can be used normally.

Free users have 20M compressed space (about 200 pictures) every month.

  • Optimize a picture: re optimize the image separately in the website background>Media>Library (list view)
  • Batch optimization of pictures: "Set">"Imagine", select the compression level to be re optimized with the age of "save&go to bulk optimizer", enter the batch optimization page, and click the "Imagif'em all" button to start optimization processing.
  • After optimization, the number of optimized pictures and the total size before and after optimization will be displayed.

Optimization level

The plug-in provides three different compression levels: normal, aggressive, and ultra strong.

Normal is "lossless" image optimization. This means that there is no loss of image quality after compression.

Aggressive and Ultra are lossy compression with reduced image quality. The former is not obvious by naked eye, while the latter can find differences.

Lao Wei suggested taking Aggressive as the best balance level to reduce the image size without affecting the quality.

You can also test three more compression methods to see how they affect your website images.

Automatically optimize images when uploading

Check "Automatically optimize image when uploading", "Backup original image", and leave "Keep all EXIF data" unchecked.

Back up original images

It is recommended to check create webp versions of images, because WebP images usually provide a smaller file size than ordinary images, while maintaining the same image quality. When enabled, the optimized version and WebP version of the original format image (JPG/PNG) are obtained. Provides support for users who use browsers that do not support WebP. If the browser supports the webp format, the WebP image will be displayed on the page. If the browser does not support the webp format, the original format version will be used.

Resize a larger picture

After checking, set a maximum size that you can accept.

File optimization

Lists all thumbnail sizes created by WordPress when pictures are uploaded. Imagify optimizes and creates WebP versions for the selected thumbnail size (enables WebP creation). You can also disable any unused dimensions.

Custom folders

Imagify will automatically optimize the images in the media library, or you can manually add other directories on the server to optimize the images. You can find these custom folder images in Media>Other Media.

3. Match with WP socket

WP socket plug-in It is recommended to use Imagify to optimize pictures and provide corresponding options in your own settings. It can be seen that the efficacy of Imagify is quite recognized.

4. Imagify optimization effect

After being optimized by the EWWW Image Optimizer plug-in, the image can be optimized again by using Imagify. The second optimization can reduce the image size by about 30%, and the image quality is not significantly different when viewed with the naked eye.
