How to add OpenGraph metadata in Rank Math

1. Where is the OpenGraph option of Rank Math

Navigate to: WordPress background>Titles&Meta>Find Global Meta on the right, and then pull down to see

1.1、OpenGraph Thumbnail

If you don't set a featured image for the article/page, when your page is shared on Facebook, the image here will be used as a thumbnail. The recommended image size is 1200 x 630 pixels.

It includes two kinds of summary cards: large picture summary card and summary card. The type of Twitter card selected when creating a new page is generally recommended to select large picture summary card. The same applies to pages without card type selected.

2. How to set OpenGraph for pages/articles

2. Picture

When you share a website link on Facebook, Facebook will find a suitable thumbnail in your page to display it. When you edit an article/page, the first thing you should consider is that the image conforms to the context of the article and website, and then the appearance of the image on Facebook. In order to attract more attention, Lao Wei suggested using this option to select an image for Facebook. Click the Add Image button to open the media library to select or add a new image.

3. Title

Title is the place to set the title of shared posts. The title is displayed at the bottom of the image, which has a great impact on getting a good click rate. Users tend to pay attention to the image first, and then see whether the title and the meaning they want are related to them.

At first, you may use the same title for title and og: title, but it is wrong from the specific use environment of both. It is recommended that you create a different title for your social media, rather than reusing the title you created for search engines.

4. Description

The description usually appears under the title, and can be cast to improve the relevance of the article.

On social media, users mainly look at pictures and titles to decide whether to click, and descriptions are often ignored. However, it is recommended to add it.

5. The free version of Rank Math can be easily previewed

The free version of Rank Math provides real-time preview for social media. After the operation is set, you can view the preview of Facebook posts generated using your configuration.

6. Add icon overlay to thumbnail

Rank Math superimposes icons on your image to make it look like a video or playable GIF. When enabled, two options appear below.

These two are just buttons, not really video and gif images. The purpose is to attract visitors to click on it.

Facebook has taken severe punishment measures (such as reducing the number of recommendations) for pages that bring bad experience to visitors. To avoid this, use overlay icons only on pages with videos or gif animations related to page themes. Also keep the video or gif at the beginning of the page, not at the end.
