Morning Mingas

30/01/2019 @ 8:00 am - 10:00 am

WHAT IS A MORNING MINGA?

During the 72nd session of the General Assembly, a new initiative was born: the “Morning Dialogues”. These dialogues were an informal series of discussions between the President of the General Assembly and Permanent Representatives on issues of concern to the United Nations.

Building from that initiative, and inspired by the age-old Andean principle of “Minga” – which refers to a collective effort and shared work that is carried out for the benefit of the community, the President of the 73rd session of the General Assembly will be holding throughout the session, a series of “ Morning Mingas ” to exchange views, concerns, ideas but mostly, solutions.

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE?

The “Morning Dialogues” provided an opportunity for a genuine and vibrant dialogue , and as we say in Spanish  “Lo  bueno   debe   continuar ”  (what works well must continue).

The purpose of the “Morning Mingas” is to have an open, inclusive and informal space for genuine dialogue.

A space to strengthen our multilateral engagement, and ultimately improve the work and outcomes for the peoples we represent at the United Nations

WHAT IS THE FORMAT?

The Morning Mingas comprise small groups of Permanent Representatives in an informal conversation with the President of the General Assembly.

Participants will engage – under Chatham House rules –  in their personal capacity.

There are no speeches or prepared remarks but instead a free-flowing dialogue on the topic being discussed

WHO IS INVITED?

All Permanent Representatives will be invited to join in the Morning Mingas.

Each session will have about 20 participants.

The series will be inclusive and take place over the course of the 73rd Session.
