Tianshan.com - Xinjiang Legal Daily (reporter Gong Yanchen reported) "Hello, I'm Yang Dan, judge of the People's Court of Tianshan District, Urumqi. Where does your brother live now? Are your family reunited? How is your health?" On July 18, Yang Dan sent a message to the case applicant, Mr. Gu, for a return visit.

"Now my brother and I live together, and the family is reunited. Thank you!" Mr. Gu replied.

On July 18, Judge Yang Dan of Tianshan District People's Court of Urumqi paid a return visit to Mr. Gu. Photograph provided by respondents

In March this year, the Tianshan District Court accepted a case of application for declaring a natural person missing. The applicant, Mr. Gu, applied for declaring his brother missing. Mr. Gu said that his brother graduated from college in 2004 and was very depressed because he could not find a suitable job. Later, because of a verbal conflict with his family, his brother left home and lost contact.

After his brother disappeared, his family inquired everywhere, but there was no news. During this period, Mr. Gu's father died, and he did not see his brother for the last time. Mr. Gu's mother is very old. Every time she mentions her missing son, she tears. Later, due to the need of household registration management, Mr. Gu applied to the court to declare his brother missing.

Mr. Gu recalled that in the year when his brother disappeared and in 2016, they reported cases to the public security organs.

According to the law, the people's court shall issue a public notice to search for the missing person after accepting the case of declaration of disappearance or death. In order to further find out the facts of the case, Yang Dan contacted the applicant many times before issuing the announcement to learn about the situation, and inquired through the relevant system of the court.

The effort pays off. Yang Dan found that in a civil case tried by the county people's court at the end of 2017, part of the information of the defendant Gu was the same as that of Mr. Gu's brother. Yang Danbi checked the ID numbers of both sides and found that they were exactly the same. This Gu is probably Mr. Gu's brother who has been missing for many years.

Yang Dan and his colleagues read the file page by page and found Gu's contact information. After the call was connected, the other party said that he was not Gu, but that he knew Gu.

"Mr. Gu? We found a Mr. Gu, who is probably your brother." Yang Dan told Mr. Gu this news. At the same time, the court of Tianshan District contacted the public security organ and asked the police to help find Gu. Finally, we found Gu in Qiemo County. After confirming his identity, Mr. Gu and his family drove to Qiemo County to take him back. After 19 years of disappearance, Mr. Gu finally reunited with his family.

It turns out that Gu has been wandering outside since he left home, and then stayed in Qiemo County. The local relevant department shall arrange their residence to ensure their living conditions. Because he felt that he didn't "act like a person", he was embarrassed to go home and hid his family situation. During this period, he lost his ID card and has been living in Qiemo County since then.

"Judge Yang, thank you for finding him." At the end of the return visit, Mr. Gu thanked again.

"You're welcome. This is what we should do. I wish you a happy family." Yang Dan replied.
