Does BYD and Tesla cooperate to make changes?
Recently, some media reported that Tesla stopped cooperation with BYD on batteries. In response to this, the person in charge of BYD said that this was untrue information and inconsistent with the actual situation.
It is worth noting that the competition between BYD and Tesla has gradually spread from the domestic market to the international market as BYD speeds up its "strategic strategy" in the overseas market.
Rumours of failed cooperation
Recently, some media reported that Tesla and BYD did not require further supply of batteries for low price models such as Model 3 standard version after the contract expired at the beginning of this year.
The report also said that the reason for the suspension of cooperation was the problem of BYD blade battery and the US subsidy policy for electric vehicles. At the same time, BYD has a direct competitive relationship with Tesla in manufacturing and exporting electric vehicles in Europe, India, Southeast Asia and other places
In addition, there is also news that LG Energy Solutions, a Korean battery manufacturer, is accelerating the development of lithium iron phosphate batteries for electric vehicles at Tesla's request, because Tesla's upcoming cheaper models will have greater demand for lithium iron phosphate batteries.
In response to reports about Tesla's suspension of cooperation with BYD on batteries, the responsible person of BYD said that, The message is untrue, which is inconsistent with the actual situation.
"BYD and Musk are good friends"
In fact, BYD rarely officially mentions its cooperation with Tesla.
As early as 2021, there was news that BYD would start to supply blade batteries to Tesla in the second quarter of 2022. Tesla also said that it would provide lithium iron phosphate batteries for entry-level models, so there was a lot of talk outside.
Until June 2022, the relevant responsible person of BYD said in an interview that, BYD and Musk are good friends, and they are ready to supply batteries to Tesla, which confirms the rumor laterally.
In August of the same year, it was reported that the blade batteries supplied by BYD had been delivered to Tesla's super factory in Berlin, Germany, which is also the first super factory for Tesla to use BYD batteries. It is expected that Tesla vehicles equipped with BYD blade batteries will be offline within one month at the earliest. At that time, BYD did not respond to relevant reports.
It is worth noting that the competition between BYD and Tesla has gradually spread from the domestic market to the international market as BYD speeds up its "strategic strategy" in the overseas market.
In the European market, BYD revealed that it has recently reached cooperation with the British electric vehicle company Octopus Electric Vehicles (hereinafter referred to as Octopus EV), and Octopus EV will purchase 5000 electric vehicles from BYD in the next three years to serve the British market 。 The UK plays an important role in BYD's sea going territory. As early as 2013, BYD has entered the British market and has been deeply involved in the field of pure electric buses, with a certain market accumulation.
In the Indian market, last October, BYD announced its official entry into the Indian passenger car market, and said that by 2023, BYD plans to sell 15000 sets of PLUS in India, and plans to establish a new production base.
By the end of last year, BYD had established 24 dealer showrooms in 21 cities in India, reaching 53 in 2023. BYD said that since the establishment of its branch in 2007, BYD has invested more than 200 million dollars in the local area and built two factories.
In addition, BYD also accelerated the layout of overseas markets such as Southeast Asia and the Middle East, In January this year, BYD had 500 BYD ATTO 3 units shipped at Shanghai Port and sent them to Malaysia.
BYD also said that with the acceleration of internationalization process, BYD will continue to expand the lineup of new energy passenger vehicles exported overseas to provide more model choices for global consumers.
