Hello, my name is Sarah Xia. I come from beautiful Zhuhai. I am a freshman at the University of Macau, majoring in psychology.

This summer vacation, I prepared for the IELTS test in Pinghe English. I got 7.0 points in the first IELTS test, including 8.5 points in reading and listening. This is of great significance to me! Today I share my English learning path, hoping to give you some reference and inspiration.

Peace · First Experience

I was born and raised in Zhuhai. After being admitted to Zhuhai No. 2 Middle School, I got the idea of taking the IELTS test. On the one hand, I hope to improve my English ability by learning IELTS; On the other hand, add double insurance, in case of unsatisfactory college entrance examination results, there is a chance to study abroad.

On the recommendation of my friend, I applied to SEED School. Here, I was lucky to meet Eva from the United States and Christina who returned from Britain, two knowledgeable and charismatic teachers.

The curriculum of SEED School is similar to that of foreign middle schools. Among them, I like reading circles best. We are responsible for various learning roles in the group, such as: Discussion Leader, Culture Collector, Connector, Word Master, Summarizer, etc. It is very interesting to deconstruct articles from different perspectives! It's like being in a colorful world. Although this project is not aimed at IELTS, it can actually improve my comprehensive English ability.

IELTS · Beginner to Graduation

After the college entrance examination, I continue to prepare for IELTS in peace. As a novice in IELTS, I hope to get 6.5 points in the first exam to meet the minimum requirements of foreign undergraduate universities for IELTS.

In Pinghe IELTS class, I met Miss Nancy and Miss Johnny. Their teaching is rigorous and orderly, and they impart knowledge to me unreservedly, which has injected confidence and motivation into my "roast duck" road.

Nancy, the general subject teacher, has a very capable teaching style and hit the nail on the head. After class, she also cared about my progress and provided me with many resources and ways to avoid detours in preparing for studying abroad.

Teacher Johnny, who is responsible for IELTS oral English, has a full score of 9, which I admire very much! His expression is smooth and emotional, and he often gives me feedback, which makes me realize: Oh! I can still say that.

On the day of scoring, I got an IELTS score of 7 more than expected, which was really amazing! I told the teachers the good news at the first time.

Dear Sarah, I sincerely congratulate you on your 7 points in the first IELTS exam! It is rare for domestic examinees to achieve a high score of 8.5 in both reading and listening in the first test.

I witnessed your transformation and growth in the days when I was with you. You always face difficulties and challenges with a positive and optimistic attitude, are good at adjusting your own state, and show a modest and practical quality. May your future be full of sunshine and hope and shine more brightly!

Experience · Going Out of Misunderstanding

The peaceful IELTS course is really very systematic and comprehensive. As my IELTS initiator, I found a clear direction from my ignorance. Here, I would like to share some of my opinions on preparing for the IELTS test, hoping to help those newcomers who are about to enter the ranks of "roast duck".

What is IELTS? IELTS is a standardized test to measure your English ability, covering four aspects: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Each item has a 9-point scale. Some people may choose to brush questions crazily, but I think this is not an efficient method, especially for those who do not have enough time.

My experience is that we should never use the tactics of "sea of questions", but should constantly review and make good use of the limited time and energy. While improving the advantageous subjects, we should also gradually improve the disadvantaged subjects, so as to achieve better results. If you just brush the questions blindly, you may fall into a strange circle of inefficiency and waste time and energy.

Listening: Errors can be categorized, such as fast linking, missing important information, or failing to combine context. Miss Nancy also taught practical skills, such as predicting part of speech, paying attention to tone, paying attention to logical connection and capturing signal words. These methods make me more sensitive in listening comprehension, thus improving my performance.

My entrance listening score was only 6. After systematic training, my listening score was 2.5 points higher than before, reaching an excellent score of 8.5 points.

Reading: I once couldn't finish the topic because of lack of time. Miss Nancy's idea of solving the problem made my eyes alight: first look at the problem, then look at the text, circle the keywords, and then quickly locate the keywords in the original text. Even if you don't understand the context, you can also identify the answer. Following her method is the same as starting at double speed. You can not only finish all the questions in a limited time, but also have time to check.

Miss Nancy's method is undoubtedly the reason why I can get a high score of 8.5 in reading and has a profound impact on my English learning.

Writing: Because I have always used the high school writing ideas to write IELTS compositions, and my score always hovers around 4 points and 5 points. Miss Nancy attaches great importance to improving my writing thinking, structure and language organization ability, and summarizes the writing skills that are suitable for me. My writing performance has improved significantly: from 4 points, 5 points to 6 points, which is a great leap forward.

Spoken English: I didn't know much about IELTS spoken English before, and thought that as long as I could express fluently, I learned later that: fluent and clear pronunciation+correct tense grammar+the ability to give examples, all three are indispensable. If we want to further improve our scores, we need to increase the complexity of sentence patterns and use more advanced vocabulary. In this regard, I still need to work hard.

After scoring in the college entrance examination, I was successfully admitted to the University of Macau, so I did not use the IELTS scores. However, my learning experience in Pinghe made me adapt to the full English teaching environment of the University in advance, just like a solid bridge, connecting me to the academic palace of the University of Macau.

Finally, I would like to thank the peaceful teachers who let me experience the fun of learning English and obtained more IELTS scores than expected. I hope my experience can provide some direction for "Roast Duck" students, and I hope you can achieve excellent results, and finally reach the other side after thousands of sails!
