JetBrains launched RustRover eight months ago Public Preview Today, the company announce This Rust IDE has been officially released, joining the existing JetBrains IDE family.
For RustRover, JetBrains provides a new licensing model, including a paid commercial license and a free personal non-commercial license, which is suitable for individuals to use RustRover for non-commercial purposes.
"For us, this is a new licensing model, because we want to provide users with an IDE for free for non-commercial purposes. At present, this model uses a honor system, that is, users declare that RustRover will not be used for commercial purposes. Although we hope this will work, we may need to make some adjustments according to the situation."
In order to reduce the price, the company has cut some functions that are not commonly used. Most of these functions are still provided in the form of paid or free plug-ins, so users can adjust the IDE as needed. Users who purchase commercial licenses before June 21, 2024 will be offered a 50% discount on their annual subscription plan.
IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate will provide support for Rust plug-ins for free. However, to use the plug-in in CLion, you need to obtain a commercial license from RustRover or purchase it separately.
RustRover's main functions include:
- Rust tool chain support, including support for the Rust compiler.
- Version control system integration, supporting GitHub and Git. Users can simplify team collaboration and control.
- Error detection and real-time feedback for debugging.
- Support for front-end technology and database.
- Allow completion and parsing, including smart code advice, even in unconventional environments.
- Unit test integration, used to test, rerun failed tests, and resolve errors.
