NetBSD Foundation announce A new development policy has been introduced, focusing on code generated by AI technology. The new policy points out that the code generated by the big language model or similar technologies (such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot) will be assumed to be contaminated (that is, the copyright is unknown, and does not meet the licensing objectives of NetBSD), so it cannot be submitted to NetBSD.

NetBSD Commit Guidelines The second point in points out:

If the code you submit is not written by yourself, please carefully check whether the license of the code is allowed to be imported into the NetBSD source code repository and distributed for free. Check with the author of the code to ensure that they are the only author of the code, and check with them that they have not copied any other code.

The code generated by the big language model or similar technology (such as GitHub/Microsoft's Copilot, OpenAI's ChatGPT or Facebook/Meta's Code Llama) is considered as contaminated code and cannot be submitted without the prior written approval of Core.
