Arc browser is based on the Chromium kernel, and adopts the vertical label pattern by default, supporting the extension of Chrome/Edge.

According to the official introduction, Arc aims to become a "World Wide Web operating system" and tries to integrate web browsing with built-in applications and functions. Its built-in functions include virtual notepad, collage style "easel" and "boosts", which allow users to beautify and redesign the website interface. Arc's tabs are arranged vertically in the sidebar, which contains all browser functions except the browse window.

The biggest difference of Arc browser is that it introduces the concept of "Space" (similar to "Groups"). Users can create different "Spaces" to meet the browsing needs of different scenarios. The URL collection under each Space can be shared with others at one time.

If you want to switch from Edge to a different browser without using Chrome, you can try Arc.

Windows version features

Arc on Windows has some core functions of the Mac version:

  • Sidebar, which can fix the most frequently used pages at the top
  • "Space", just like a folder, can set different tabs for different tasks, such as "Work", "Entertainment", "Vacation" and "Memo"
  • Profile for separating browsing data and preferences
  • Split view for opening multiple tabs in a single window
  • And support for the picture in picture video player, so you can view other tabs while watching video clips.

Arc Browser developers use Swift to build the Windows version in order to reuse and share most of the code base with the Mac version. Swift is a programming language originally designed by Apple to develop iPhone and Mac applications. Using Swift on Windows will make it easier to maintain equal functionality in the future. The company also wrote a lot of articles about its experience in building applications on Windows using Swift to help developers migrate Mac applications.
