On July 17, 2008, the board of directors of Potpatch Corporation announced the spin off of the company. The official establishment date of Clearwater Paper was December 9, 2008. Clearwater Paper shares began trading on December 17. Gordon L. Jones, who has served as the vice president of Potpatch since July 2008, was elected President and CEO of Clearwater Paper. At the end of the spin off, two independent entities were still trading publicly: Potpatch Corporation( New York stock exchange PCH) and Clearwater Paper Corporation (NYSE: CLW). -
At the end of 2010, Clearwater Paper acquired Cellu Tissue Holdings, Inc., headquartered in Alpharetta, Georgia, which increased the company's manufacturing business in the eastern United States and Canada. The total number of manufacturing sites has increased to 14, and another is under construction. -
In November 2011, Clearwater Paper Corporation completed the sale of its sawmill in Lewiston, Idaho, to Idaho Forest Group in Coeur d'Allene, Idaho. Since then, Clearwater has only two departments: consumer goods, pulp and cardboard. -
Clearwater Paper's latest factory in Shelby, North Carolina was officially launched in December 2012, producing the first private label breathable drying (TAD) finished roll and conversion tissue products to compete with other TAD tissue brands. Clearwater Paper has also completed the upgrade of its north Las Vegas factory, enabling the factory to produce TAD ultra sanitary napkins and household towels. -
Clearwater Paper closed its plant in Thomaston, Georgia, in December 2013, and its plant in Long Island, New York, in February 2014, reducing the number of plants to 13. -
On December 21, 2021, according to Royal Bank of Canada, Clearwater Paper (NYSE: CLW) may become the acquisition target of BillerudKorsnas. RBC commented that the Swedish pulp and manufacturer yesterday agreed to acquire Verso Corp. On February 20, 2024, Clearwater Paper acquired Graphic Packaging Holding (NYSE: GPK) Bleached cardboard manufacturing plant in Augusta, Georgia.
