China's tourism laws and regulations
Classification of Inbound and Outbound Luggage and Articles

 
(Revised by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China on November 25, 1994)

Class I items:
Clothes, clothing, shoes, hats, arts and crafts and other daily necessities with a value of 500 yuan or less

Category II items:
Tobacco products, alcoholic beverages

Class III items:
Daily necessities worth more than 1000 yuan and less than 5000 yuan (including 5000 yuan)

Category IV items:
Daily necessities worth more than 500 yuan and less than 1000 yuan (including 1000 yuan)

Note: 1. The value of inbound articles mentioned in this table shall be subject to the duty paid price approved by the customs, and the value of outbound articles shall be subject to the price listed in the domestic legal commercial invoice;
2. The specific limits of tax collection and exemption for all kinds of passengers to carry the articles listed in this table into and out of the country shall be separately stipulated by the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China;
3. Unless otherwise specified, articles exceeding the maximum limits listed in this table shall not be regarded as passengers' luggage.
