The well-known password manager Bitwarden recently announced the launch of an open source, free and independent multi factor verifier (MFA) Bitwarden Authenticator for iOS and Android platforms.
This authenticator is not integrated in the password manager, and users do not need to use the password manager to use the multifactor authenticator. That is, this authenticator can be used alone and compatible with all websites that support the standard TOTP protocol.
Users can download and install this verifier and bind various websites, and then generate a time-based one-time password (TOTP). In addition to the account and password, a one-time verification code is required to complete the login.
For individual users:
This authenticator has the same functions as Google's authenticator and Microsoft's authenticator. Its feature is that it is completely open source and simpler than Microsoft's authenticator. It can be used even if users are completely offline.
For enterprise users:
Bitwarden plans to add enterprise level fine management functions to this verifier in the future, that is, enterprise IT administrators will be able to implement MFA verification in batches within the enterprise, and then fine control different employee accounts and permissions to meet the enterprise's needs for enhanced security.
As the leading open source free password manager provider in the industry, Bitwarden's authenticators continue to adopt the open source free strategy, providing enterprises and institutions in all industries with a more secure authentication tool.
This can also attract more users to use the multifactor authentication function to improve account security. For users, any website or service that supports the binding of multifactor authentication functions should be bound, which can significantly improve account security, including dealing with password disclosure, database collision and fatigue attacks.
Now all users can download Bitwarden Authenticator through Apple's App Store and Google Play Store, without having to register an account and download it, but please note: remember to save the standby code when opening MFA on the website or service.
