Content introduction:

Herodotus, the ancient Greek historian and "father of history", wrote the immortal History, which not only described the major historical conflicts between Greeks and Persians, but also was the first western exploration of cultural differences. Francois Ahtogo focused on the issue of cultural differences, and explored and explained how Herodotus expressed such cultural differences in History. Through textual research on the customs and beliefs of non Greeks, namely Scythians, in Herodotus' works, he analyzed how the great historian described and understood a way of life that was different from his own, and what language, rhetoric and philosophical means did he use to shape his text into a mirror? In answering these questions, Francois Ahtogo changed our understanding of the "father of history". Herodotus in his works is not so much a successful Greek chronicler as an outstanding writer who pursues uniqueness. Ahtogo provides a powerful new tool for contemporary people to understand Herodotus' works by virtue of his meticulous insight and solid literature foundation. Readers can not only follow the author to find a way to read history in the book and experience the fun of new discoveries, but also can observe how a famous historian explored the fundamental issues of history in early research in retrospect.

Editor's recommendation:

1. Step into the forbidden area of traditional historiography and explore the mission and power limit of historians. "History" is a mirror in which historians constantly look at themselves. In fact, they are also constantly exploring their identity: historians are observers, observers, questioners, and questioners. It is obviously a forbidden area for traditional historiography to deal with the "general consensus" that is not easy to be directly confirmed in a certain era. Ahtogo stepped into the forbidden area of traditional historiography with the help of careful insight, solid literature foundation and strong analytical ability to explore what historians should do and how to do with history, society and people.
2. Reflections on cultural boundaries, others and heterogeneous civilizations provide ideas for the coexistence and common prosperity of different cultures. By investigating how the ancient Greeks viewed non Greeks and how they understood their different lifestyles, beliefs, customs and languages, the author provides a powerful tool for contemporary people to understand heterogeneous civilizations across cultural gaps.
3. Explore the cultural differences between different civilizations from the perspectives of literature, history, rhetoric, anthropology and philosophy. Herodotus, the "father of history", whose immortal work History is the earliest western exploration of cultural differences. Ahtogo broke away from the limitations of history and investigated the cultural differences among different civilizations reflected in History from the perspectives of literature, rhetoric and anthropology, which changed our established impression of Herodotus and inspired us to go back to the historical scene.
