Recently, HP released its 2023 Sustainable Development Report, which has been its 23 consecutive years of public disclosure of its achievements in the field of sustainable development. HP is not only one of the first technology companies to incorporate the sustainable development goal into the company's strategy, but also a firm advocate and active practitioner of this concept. In this year's report, HP showed in detail its latest progress and achievements in the three core areas of sustainable development: climate action, humanistic care and digital equity. At the same time, a new research carried out by HP worldwide shows that enterprise and government leaders are actively embracing emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development goals and enhance social influence.

HP, together with Oxford Economic Research Institute, one of the world's leading independent economic research institutions, conducted research on the relationship between artificial intelligence and sustainable development between business leaders and government officials in 10 countries around the world, including China. The survey results show that up to three quarters (76%) of leaders believe that technology is the core driving force to promote the integration of the whole people into the digital economy era. Similarly, 76% of these leaders believe that AI is of great significance in promoting sustainable development and achieving social impact goals. What is more noteworthy is that most enterprise leaders have not only actively embraced AI, but also up to 90% (90%) of respondents said that they plan to achieve the popularization of digital education through AI in the next one to two years, and are committed to employee training and diversified development. These forward-looking measures will undoubtedly have a far-reaching and positive impact on the long-term development of the enterprise itself and society.

Zhuang Zhengsong, senior vice president of Hewlett Packard and president of Greater China, said: "As a world leading technology company, Hewlett Packard always adheres to the concept of 'digital equity', actively practices corporate social responsibility, and is committed to providing fair education, medical care and economic opportunities to ensure that everyone can thrive in the digital economy. Looking forward to the future, HP will work hand in hand with local partners to help more people master digital skills with diversified innovative products and solutions, combined with rich educational resources and training projects, demonstrate the responsibility of technology enterprises with practical actions, and contribute HP's strength to social progress. "

The digital gap is significant, and digital skills need to be improved

According to authoritative statistics, about one-third of the world's population has not yet used the Internet. As digital technology is widely integrated into people's daily life, the digital divide is becoming increasingly prominent, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence is more likely to exacerbate this inequality. In this regard, Michele Malejki, director of HP Global Social Impact and director of HP Foundation, stressed that "in the era of booming digital economy, everyone has the right to access tools and opportunities to show themselves and realize their values. We firmly believe that technology is the key force to promote social equality and promote social progress. However, to really narrow the digital divide in the rapidly changing world, we must be committed to improving the public's technology application ability and digital literacy. "

The 2023 Sustainability Report released by HP shows that since 2021, HP has helped more than 45 million people achieve digital equity, which has completed one third of its ambitious goal of "benefiting 150 million people by 2030". Behind this remarkable progress is HP's close cooperation and efforts with many partners, who have jointly tailored practical, efficient and innovative solutions for the community. In particular, HP's key projects, strategic investments and partnerships in recent years have all been closely focused on those groups most vulnerable to the digital divide, demonstrating HP's firm commitment and unremitting efforts to promote digital equity and social inclusion.

Pay wide attention to specific groups and tailor innovative solutions

In 2022, HP and Aspen Institute launched the Digital Equity Accelerator program, and jointly developed a number of digital equity solutions with ten organizations in Malaysia, South Africa and Mexico. So far, 6.4 million people have benefited from it. In addition, HP has established two NABU HP creative laboratories in the United States and the Philippines to provide technical support for artists and writers, who have created hundreds of children's books in local languages. By 2023, these free books have helped 1.9 million children to improve their reading and writing abilities, while cultivating their cultural self-confidence and identity, laying a solid foundation for their participation in the digital economy.

In China, HP is also committed to the innovation of intelligent education products and the popularization of digital technology education to help young people improve their scientific literacy. In recent years, HP has actively supported JA China to carry out STEM projects and entrepreneurship education projects, and encouraged students to solve problems through computer programming. In 2022, these projects have been implemented in 12 schools in Beijing, Shanghai, Wuxi and Chengdu. In addition, HP also launched an intelligent education notebook in conjunction with Tencent Education Application Platform, combining rich educational resources with HP's high-performance software and hardware functions, providing a practical model for digital education.

Make efforts in the field of artificial intelligence and accelerate the popularization of artificial intelligence

Many interviewed enterprises and government leaders pointed out in the survey that, in addition to economic fluctuations, the lack of skills training has become a major obstacle to achieving sustainable development goals. HP knows the core position of skills training in promoting digital equity, so it actively plans to lead 2.75 million people to join its skills training program - HP LIFE. At present, the plan has attracted more than 1.2 million users. In addition, HP has also further popularized and encouraged the industry to widely apply AI technology by adding AI training courses, setting up relevant AI awards and launching innovative AI products, in order to create broader and more equitable development opportunities in the digital era.

In China, the booming development of artificial intelligence has brought unprecedented opportunities for the development of enterprises and individuals. The survey by the Oxford Institute of Economics shows that China has taken the lead in the use of artificial intelligence in the world. Most respondents said that they are already using AI to increase revenue, improve customer and public satisfaction, improve efficiency and benefit local communities. 2024 is recognized as the first year of AI PC application by the industry. In May this year, HP released a new AI commercial strategy, AI PC product portfolio and innovative solutions, enabling enterprises to accelerate business restructuring and promote the overall growth of employees. At the level of personal applications, HP launched AI Xiaohui, a portable computer butler, which can provide users with highly customized PC use guidance and more intelligent and secure personalized AI services. In the future, HP plans to launch more new commercial and consumer Next Gen AI PCs designed for work and creation.

Cooperate with public welfare partners to promote sustainable development of education

In China, HP actively promotes the realization of the goal of digital equity, paying special attention to children and grassroots educators. In terms of helping rural education, HP and Shanghai True Love Foundation launched the public welfare project of "HP helps students to light up the future" to help rural teaching digitalization through school construction assistance, hardware facilities donation and other ways. Up to now, nearly 15000 printers have been donated to 31 provinces, cities and autonomous regions, benefiting more than 6200 schools and more than 3.4 million teachers and students. In 2023, HP and Shanghai True Love Dream Public Welfare Foundation jointly launched the public welfare project of "Sports Dream Class", providing sports dream courses and exclusive sports equipment for 181 teachers in 50 schools, greatly improving the level of local physical education, directly benefiting 47919 students, and providing more platforms for young people in rural and remote areas to realize their dreams.

Not only that, HP also integrates volunteer work into the daily life of its employees, and carries out public welfare activities around the world, so that employees can personally promote the concept of "a deliberate idea has the power to change the world" advocated by HP. Since 2023, HP volunteers in China have completed 138 volunteer activities, involving 2566 volunteers, working 22949 hours in total, and donated more than 5000 materials to poor areas and disaster areas. Among them, there were 11 activities related to promoting digital fairness in science and technology on campus. 95 volunteers contributed 412 hours of volunteer time and 416 students benefited from them. In addition, more than 14000 HP employees participated in the "40 Days of Doing Good" HP Global Volunteer Service, 605 volunteer activities and 95000 volunteer hours.

Technology enters campus, programming for one hour

In the future, HP will continue to adhere to the concept of "people first", practice corporate social responsibility with practical actions, take multiple measures to promote digital equity, contribute to sustainable development, and create a fairer and better future.
