With the arrival of the 29th World Reading Day, Beijing public libraries (offices) at all levels carried out 772 mass reading activities to promote universal reading. Among them, the grass-roots reading activities carried out by the streets (towns), community (village) libraries (rooms) and new reading spaces accounted for 74%, enhancing the convenience of citizens' participation in mass activities.

On April 23, the Capital Library held a grand event themed "Reading Beijing" World Reading Day, opening the Grand Canal International Reading Culture Festival. Xicheng District held the activity of "reading poetry for you under the crabapple tree - the tenth anniversary celebration" to convey the power of books by singing rhymes. Fengtai District launched the 2024 Shuxiangfengtai National Reading Activity, released the plan of the district's national reading promotion activity, promoted the sharing of reading resources in Hebei, Tianjin, Xinjiang, Shenyang and other places, and launched the initiative of "Library, Community, Store Reading Alliance". Haidian District's national reading season activities focus on excellent traditional culture, red culture and innovative culture, focusing on the three mountains and five parks, the way to Beijing for an exam, the spirit of Zhongguancun, including lectures, exhibitions, reading parties, celebrity salons, classic reading, creative reading experience, etc., highlighting the on-site experience.

Recently, public libraries at all levels are also very rich in theme activities, including good book recommendation, cultural lectures, exhibitions, reading salons, and cultural fairs. Chaoyang District Library held a series of lectures on old books and new knowledge of Jintai Academy, explaining the characteristics of Beijing's ancient books as a capital and explaining the development process of Beijing's ancient books. The Beijing City Library held the World Book Day Stamp Exhibition to display reading stamps, bookmarks, cultural and creative products, etc. Xicheng District held a special tour of the collection tickets of the Beijing Tianjin Hebei Library's youth reading promotion activities, and selected 89 outstanding works of collection tickets of young people from three places to participate in the exhibition. Tongzhou District Library held a "tour exhibition of eight famous poets in Tang and Song dynasties through thousands of years" to lead the public to taste the beauty of the poems of the eight famous poets. The sub district branches of Shijingshan District Library and Langyuan Park carried out the book exchange activity of "old books and new knowledge". Chaoyang, Fengtai, Fangshan, Shunyi and other districts also held book exchange events to actively promote and attract the broad participation of the masses through book exchange. (Li Yang)
