The record and approval results of undergraduate majors in municipal ordinary colleges and universities have been announced recently, and 28 new undergraduate majors have been registered in 16 colleges and universities. The new engineering direction is the most popular specialty, which focuses on training AI compound talents. The enrollment of three new majors of Capital Medical University, Beijing University of Information Technology and Beijing Agricultural University will begin in 2024.
Among the 28 newly registered undergraduate majors, the number of majors in engineering, management and education ranked the top three, with 9 in engineering, 5 in management and 4 in education. Among them, more than 30% of the majors fit the development of new engineering disciplines, most of which belong to cross disciplines of artificial intelligence. For example, Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology has added the specialty of intelligent engineering and creative design to promote interdisciplinary integration and highlight the school running characteristics of "art oriented, clothing oriented, and art industry integration". The newly added specialty of intelligent medical engineering in Capital Medical University aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents in fields such as cross-border integration medicine, life science, electronic technology, computer science and information technology. The newly added intelligent interaction design specialty in Beijing University of Information Technology will integrate mechanical engineering, design, computer science and technology and other disciplines to create a comprehensive training mode for interdisciplinary talents around the cultivation of artificial intelligence literacy, artistic design thinking, and interaction design ability.
The new agricultural science is also the highlight of the new filed specialty. The newly established biological breeding technology major of Beijing Agricultural University is one of the 24 new undergraduate majors announced by the Ministry of Education in 2024. Focusing on the development goal of national food security strategy, this major will cultivate applied high-tech talents who master the knowledge and skills of crop germplasm resources innovation, molecular design and breeding.
