"Titian and Renaissance: 500 Years of European Art Genuine Works Exhibition" was officially launched in Beijing 798 Museum. This exhibition displays 59 authentic works of 47 Renaissance painting masters, including Titian, Raphael, Botticelli, Duqiao, Giorgione, etc. The collection is all from the collection of the famous Italian collector Josepe Alessandra, and presents a "condensed European art history" for the audience through the European paintings spanning the 13th to 18th centuries.
This exhibition is a rare collection of five authentic works of Titian, which is the first large-scale appearance of Titian in Beijing. Wang Chunchen, professor of the Central Academy of Fine Arts and curator of the Museum, said that each of the five works has its own characteristics and broad themes, including myths, legends and portraits. Among them, Portrait of Otavio Farnese and Repentant Saint Jerome are the representative works of Titian's thick painting method.
In addition to Titian, the works of 46 masters, including Raphael, one of the three heroes of the Renaissance, Botticelli, the last master of the Florentine School of Painting, Giovanni, the founder of the Venetian School of Painting, Rubens, the representative of the peak of baroque style, and Rembrandt, the Dutch master of light and shadow, were also exhibited this time. The suicide of Dido on display in the exhibition is Raphael's early work in Rome, which is based on the Aeneid of Virgil, an ancient Roman poet. The simple and clear composition is the result of the painter's careful consideration, which also condenses the pious emotion and ingenious design, making the whole picture full of the tension of classical tragedy.
"This exhibition adopts the structural design of symphonic movement, presenting a 'color symphony' composed by the Renaissance masters with Titian as the center." Wang Chunchen said that the original masterpieces of master paintings displayed in the exhibition are of high standard, large span, wide range and rich subject matter, which can be described as a wonderful "slice" of Europe's 500 year painting history 。 "The audience can observe the changes of European painting from a subtle point of view, and can also experience the changes from the theme of expression to the language of painting, from the personality and style of the artist to the art aesthetic of an era."
