The website of the Municipal Urban Administration Commission was released on March 14. According to the Measures of Beijing Municipality on the Administration of Heating and the meteorological consultation, the city decided to end heating at 24:00 on March 15, 2024. This round of heating will last 130 days.
According to practices and relevant regulations, under normal meteorological conditions, Beijing usually starts heating officially on November 15 of the previous year, and stops heating on March 15. However, Beijing has insisted on "heating by watching the sky" for many years. If the average daily temperature in the city is lower than 5 ℃ for five consecutive days, or if severe snowfall and other extreme weather occur, heating may be advanced or extended.
When to heat and when to stop heating, multiple departments will discuss together according to the weather conditions. During the whole heating season, the municipal city management committee, the municipal meteorological bureau and other departments held many meteorological consultations. Among them, three weather conferences will be held before the arrival of the heating season to study and judge when to officially heat. Before the end of the heating season, a meteorological consultation will also be held to study and judge the weather and temperature to decide when to officially stop heating.
At the beginning of November 2023, due to the continuous cooling in the north, in order to ensure the warmth of citizens in winter, the city will start the ignition and trial operation of the heating system at 0:00 on November 6. The trial operation will only take one day. The formal heating will be started at 0:00 on November 7, 8 days earlier than the legal heating period. Since the middle of March 2024, the temperature in the capital has been rising. According to the weather consultation, the city decided to end heating at 24:00 on March 15.
Even if the heating stops, the heating in citizens' homes will not cool down immediately, because whether the heating starts or stops, there will be a process that will not make people feel obvious discomfort.
The water stored in the heater is softened water after anti-corrosion treatment, which can effectively isolate the corrosion of air on the radiator and pipes. In order to facilitate the maintenance of the heater, some residents still store water in the radiator and heater pipes after the heating is stopped. Residents should not drain the water in the radiator and pipes by themselves, nor dismantle or change the cooling facilities without authorization, to prevent water leakage.
