Oculus Quest ADB manual firmware upgrade (machine brushing)

Quest in mainland China cannot connect to the Oculus server, so the firmware cannot be updated. In order to use the new firmware with Oculus link function, you can select ADB to manually clean the machine.

Prepare adb and Quest firmware

1. Install and configure adb

Adb is Android Debug Bridge Abbreviation of, which is a debugging interaction tool between PC and Android platform, through which you can connect to Android devices and execute commands.

There are two ways to install adb: Android Studio The built-in SDK manager module performs automatic installation. The second is to download the corresponding version of platform tools (29.0.5-5949299 and above).

When using method 2, note that if you want to use the adb command anywhere, you need to add the path of the adb executable file to the environment variable Medium.

2. Prepare Oculus Quest firmware

Enable the developer mode of Oculus Quest (note: this step is not necessary)

• Open the Oculus mobile terminal APP and connect the Oculus Quest device.

• Enable Developer Mode .

Connect PC and prepare firmware

• Use USB Type-C cable to connect Oculus Quest and PC device.
• Place the downloaded firmware in the specified location, for example: d:/Quest_v19f.zip .

Enter Oculus Quest debugging mode

• Press and hold the Oculus Quest power key, and select Shutdown.
• After the device is completely shut down, press and hold Power key And Volume+ (Quest3 and other new equipment may be Volume- ）Hold until the following menu appears:

• At this time, the side indicator of the device changes to Purple flashing status .

• Enter in the command prompt adb devices To view the connection status:

  

  • If the device name is followed by sideload Words, indicating normal connection
  • If the device name is followed by offline Other words, such as, indicate abnormal connection

Start brushing

Enter at the command prompt Adb sigeload+firmware package name After entering, start to brush in the firmware:

 adb sideload d:/Quest_v19f.zip

Then wait for the refresh to complete:

After refreshing, if Total xfer：2.00x The character indicates that the firmware is successfully flashed in. Quest will automatically restart the firmware installation.
If Total xfer：1.00x The character indicates that the data line is failed. You can try to refresh or replace the data line for many times.
