Disclosure of family privacy information about children

Protecting children is an important priority for all Apple employees. We advocate transparency and will provide parents with the information they need so that they can decide how to make the most favorable choice for their children. We are committed to providing parents with intuitive and customizable control functions. By creating an Apple ID for your child, you can let your child use Family Sharing with you and other family members. Your children will be able to share music, movies, TV shows, books, apps, photos, calendars, locations, and more with you and your family. Your child can also use all the services and content available to the Apple ID account holder to get a personalized Apple ID experience.

Please note that this disclosure does not apply to the data collection practices of any third-party APP. Before your children purchase or download, you should read the terms, policies and practices of such third-party apps in detail to understand what data may be collected from your children by the third party and how the third party may use these data.

Your child's Apple ID

Through the Apple ID you created for them, your children will be able to take advantage of all Apple functions and services that use Apple ID. For example, your child will be able to:

  • Make and receive FaceTime video and voice calls.
  • Create and share photos, videos, voice messages, and text with Camera, Photos, Messages, Mail, and other Apple apps.
  • Create documents and data, and share them with others through iCloud public and private sharing functions. Depending on the settings selected, these may include your child's name and contact information (if provided).
  • Use Find, Info, and other apps that use location services to share their location with family members, and use Find to locate supported devices and accessories. If you share your child's location with your family when you create their Apple ID or use Family Sharing to set up their Apple Watch, your child's location information will be shared with all family members (including new members added later). Your child can customize their location sharing settings, unless "screen usage time" limits this.
  • Access the shared calendar so that you and your children can share past and future schedules with other family members.
  • Access, play online and download content and subscriptions purchased by other family members, including music, movies, TV programs, podcasts, apps and in app purchases, books, Apple Arcade, Apple Music, Apple News+and Apple TV+.
  • Purchase content and download free content in Apple Music, App Store, Books Store and Apple TV app; Purchase in app; And subscribe to Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple TV+and Apple Music, and fully follow the "ask before purchase" setting you set.
  • Receive recommendations in Apple Music and Apple TV apps.
  • Use Game Center to play games and interact with other users, and share information with other users, including your child's Game Center nickname, avatar, and friend information.
  • After you set up an account for them, use various Apple Pay services (such as "Traffic Card" and Apple Cash) to make payments and collect money, and save and use vouchers such as tickets and boarding passes in the wallet app.
  • Track and share health information, such as heart rate, blood pressure, or nutrient intake, as well as physical training and activity data. If your child uses the Apple Watch, your child can choose to share his/her physical training and activity data with other Apple Watch users by sharing fitness records, including details such as the number of steps and distance taken in a day. If your child uses the health app, your child can also share some health information with other health app users in the "address book" through the health sharing function, including some historical health data and subsequent updates related to the data shared. Even after deleting a health app user from your child's "address book", your child can still maintain a sharing relationship with the user.
  • Store photos, videos, documents, memos, contacts, calendars, emails, backups, and other app data (including Apple Arcade game activities) in iCloud.

Your children can also access some functions and services that do not require Apple ID, such as accessing and searching the Internet and Internet resources through Safari browser and Siri search, and using Siri to ask questions and complete tasks.

In addition to the above examples, we may add other functions when releasing software updates. We recommend that you read the instructions and terms related to such released versions before your children download the updates to their devices.

Parental control

Family Sharing allows you to seamlessly share your choices with your family. However, sometimes you may want to restrict your child's access to certain content or resources that other family members can access. To help you manage your children's access to Apple ID services and functions, we provide some different parental control functions, including "screen usage time", "access restrictions" and "ask before purchase" of "family sharing". The control function for spending and receiving funds using Apple Pay services such as Apple Cash can be found in "Wallet".

Screen usage time

If you and your child use iOS 12 or higher, iPadOS or macOS, you can use the "screen usage time" function to limit the child's use of any iOS, iPadOS or macOS device that has logged in. This includes setting the specific time period when the screen is not allowed to be used; Restrict access to specific functions, apps or app categories; And set age based content access restrictions for movies, music, books, and other content.

If you use Family Sharing Settings and enable Class Hours, you can determine when to restrict family members from using some features of the Apple Watch. If a family member unlocks the Apple Watch during class time, you can see the unlocking in the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. This information will be sent to Apple after end-to-end encryption, but it will only be associated with your Apple ID so that Apple can provide information about unlocking.

limit

If you or your child uses an iOS version lower than iOS 12, you can set access restrictions for your child on any iOS or iPadOS device your child uses by going to Settings>General>Access Restrictions; Or on a Mac, go to System Settings>Parental Controls to make relevant settings. With these settings, you can limit certain functions, such as FaceTime calls, cameras, Safari browsers, multiplayer games, certain social media apps, and you can also specify content suitable for children. This is an important step in managing children's activities on Apple devices. The above access restrictions and parental controls should be set on every device used by children.

Ask your family before sharing and buying

With the "Family Sharing" feature, you can specify up to five other family members through Apple ID to share purchases, subscriptions and more with these family members. "Ask before purchase" is a function of "Family Sharing", which enables you to view and approve the downloads and purchases requested by your children, including purchases in the App Store or in the app using iTunes. The system will enable "Ask Before Purchase" by default for all users added to the family who are less than 13 years old (or the corresponding minimum age specified by the jurisdiction where they live). If you choose to turn off "pre purchase inquiry" for your child, you will receive information about the purchase in the form of an email receipt (sent within 24-72 hours after purchase) or a credit card bill, including in app purchases through the App Store or iTunes.

Please note that apps purchased through the "bulk purchase plan" and those downloaded again or using the redemption code may not be subject to the restriction of "ask before purchase".
