After the award ceremony, the 10th African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development roundtable was held, with the theme of "Opening up scientific progress in the field of life medicine: the impact of the UNESCO Equatorial Guinea International Prize for Life Science Research on the transformation of life medicine research in Africa".
Qiao Jie and three other winners in 2024 and two previous winners jointly discussed the key areas of future life science research and innovation, cross disciplinary cooperative research issues in life science, as well as policy support, funding mechanism and ethical considerations. The meeting was chaired by Professor Wagida Anwar, Chairman of the Evaluation Committee of Equatorial Guinea International Life Science Research Award. Qiao Jie shared and emphasized the importance of scientific and technological development in the field of life medicine and the standardized use of technology at the round table.
As an important part of the 10th African Regional Forum on Sustainable Development, the award ceremony and round table of the UNESCO Equatorial Guinea International Life Science Research Awards are an important exchange platform to fully listen to experts from all over the world on how life science research can improve human life and well-being. As the only representative of Chinese scientists, Qiao Jie, from the perspective of scientific research, teaching, medical treatment and other fields, made great efforts to show China's attention to the field of life medicine science and representative achievements in some fields in the exchange process with international scholars, and clearly expressed the positive attitude of in-depth exchanges, mutual benefit and win-win results with Africa and other regions of the world, It fully demonstrates the general pattern of Chinese scientists building a community for the healthy development of human life with the innovation of life medicine science and technology as the link.
The UNESCO Equatorial Guinea International Life Science Research Award was established in 2008 to award outstanding life science research that has made important contributions to improving the quality of human life. The research subjects can be individuals or institutions. The award is funded by the government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. So far, 25 individuals/institutions have won the award.
