Q: On May 23, the General Assembly voted to pass the resolution on the "International Day of the Srebrenica Genocide". China voted against it. What is the comment of the Chinese Embassy on this

A: We have noted that on May 23, the General Assembly of the United Nations voted to adopt a resolution on the establishment of the International Day for the Srebrenica Genocide. China always respects the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and supports the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina to choose their own national development path; China has always been committed to developing friendly relations with the people of all ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and hopes that all ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina will strengthen dialogue, enhance mutual trust and achieve reconciliation; China has always played a constructive role in maintaining lasting peace, stability and development in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the western Balkans.

The armed conflict that took place in the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s is a dark page in history, causing a large number of innocent civilian casualties. The Srebrenica tragedy is even more deplorable. China has always advocated not forgetting history, taking history as a mirror, and preventing the recurrence of tragedy. At the same time, it is also hoped that all ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina will show inclusiveness and reconciliation, seek consensus, unite and look forward to jointly safeguard national peace and stability. With regard to the resolution on the "International Day of the Srebrenica Genocide" proposed by some countries, China believes that the relevant resolutions need to be collectively decided by the Bosnia and Herzegovina Presidency, the three communities need to reach consensus, and full consultation with important parties and Member States is needed. The resolution pushing forward the remaining major differences is inconsistent with the spirit of promoting reconciliation and harmony among the countries in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, with the expectation of maintaining peace and stability in the western Balkans and the entire European region, and with the original intention of demonstrating the unity of Member States through the establishment of the International Day.

China has always taken a responsible and responsible attitude towards international and regional issues, firmly maintained the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law, and advocated that the parties concerned resolve their differences and disputes through dialogue and negotiation. We call on the international community to fully listen to and respect the views and concerns of the three ethnic groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina in a balanced, prudent and responsible manner, encourage and support dialogue and consultation to promote national reconciliation, and do more useful things for regional peace and development.

The Israeli representative's defense statement in the "genocide" case was interrupted, and the protestor: a liar

On the 17th local time, in The Hague, the Netherlands, the United Nations International Court of Justice continued to hold a hearing on South Africa's request to stop Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip. At the hearing of the same day, the Israeli representative was interrupted by the protesters when he was presenting his defence statement.

Turgman, Legal Adviser of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel: Israel requested the Court to reject South Africa's request for amendment and issuance of interim measures.

Protester: Liar.

Subsequently, the live broadcast signal of the hearing was interrupted.

At the hearing on the same day, the Israeli representative not only defended Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip, but also accused South Africa of being groundless in accusing Israel of genocide.

The Deputy Attorney General of Israel believes that South Africa's allegations are totally groundless

Gilad Noyam, Deputy Attorney General of Israel: The decision of the Israeli Cabinet and its implementation in the Gaza Strip undoubtedly show that South Africa's allegations of Israel's alleged genocide are totally groundless.

The representative of South Africa said to reporters on the same day that Israel's statement was an attempt to shirk its own responsibility, but also a political slander against South Africa.

Zane Dengor, representative of South Africa: In essence, such a statement is a deduction and criticism, which is a political defamation of South Africa's original intention. Our appeal is firm, and we hope the judge can seriously consider it. In addition, we also responded to Israel's written report as required, because we firmly believe that our purpose here is to raise major concerns about international crimes, especially "crimes within crimes", that is, genocide.

The Palestinian representative said that Israel's defense was an attempt to fabricate a "parallel world" that was contrary to reality.

Amar Hijazi, the representative of Palestine: I think what we have heard today is a statement based on delusion, which is another parallel world. It is contrary to the views of the international community and relevant institutions, to the fact that humanitarian workers and journalists were killed, and to the genocide that you have witnessed live.

On December 29 last year, South Africa filed a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice, accusing Israel of genocide in the Gaza Strip. On 26 January this year, the International Court of Justice issued a binding "temporary measure", requiring Israel to take immediate action to prevent any act that might subject Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to genocide. On May 10, South Africa urged the International Court of Justice to issue an order demanding that Israel immediately stop its military operations in Rafah and withdraw its troops.

The International Court of Justice is the principal judicial organ of the United Nations. According to the Statute of the International Court of Justice, the International Court of Justice has the right to issue "provisional measures" when it deems necessary to resolve legal disputes submitted to it by States. The judgment is binding and cannot be appealed.
