Since the beginning of the winter in 1975, Premier Zhou's illness has gone from bad to worse. Due to the consumption of cancer, his weight has dropped from 130 kg to dozens of kg. At that time, the domestic situation also worsened, and the movement of "criticizing Lin, Confucius and Duke of Zhou" quickly spread to the whole country. The edge of its struggle has clearly pointed to Premier Zhou.
In such a complex situation, one day, Li Xiannian and Chen Xilian, with heavy hearts, entered Premier Zhou's ward. During the conversation between the three, Premier Zhou mentioned Comrade Wen Yucheng, because he was always worried about the detention of Comrade Wen Yucheng. As he said this, Premier Zhou burst into tears.
During the War of Liberation, Wen Yucheng served in the Fourth Field Army and was Lin Biao's favorite general. Why was he also suppressed by Lin Biao, Jiang Qing and others in the late 1960s?
Early experience of outstanding military achievements
In October 1915, Wen Yucheng was born in a poor farmer's family in Xingguo, Jiangxi Province. He entered a private school at the age of 7 and studied for three years. Until he was 10 years old, his father was injured when he was fleeing, and soon died. After that, his family lost its backbone, and he was forced to drop out of school to work as a farmer when he was young.

In 1929, Chairman Mao and Chairman Zhu went to Jinggangshan to establish a base area, and the spark of revolution spread all over southern Jiangxi. At that time, Wen Yucheng, only 14 years old, took an active part in revolutionary activities and joined the Youth League. In April of the next year, he joined the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army and became a party member in 1932.
Wen Yucheng started his career as an ordinary propagandist, went through five anti "encirclement and suppression" campaigns, and by the eve of the Long March, he had been promoted to secretary of the general party branch of the direct subordinate team of the 8th Red Army Corps. After the Xiangjiang Campaign, Wen Yucheng was assigned to work in the Military Commission Cadre Corps of the 5th Red Army Corps.
In the spring of 1937, Wen Yucheng served as the Political Commissar of the Cavalry Regiment of the Fifth Red Army and marched with the West Route Army to Gansu. In the battle of Gaotai, the Red Fifth Army suffered heavy losses. Wen Yucheng was captured because of a leg injury in this battle. Later, he escaped tactfully, begged along the way, and finally returned to the revolutionary team after more than a month of hardship.

Later, Wen Yucheng successively participated in the War of Resistance against Japan, the War of Liberation, the War of Resistance against US Aggression and Aid Korea. In 1955, Wen Yucheng, who was only 40 years old, was awarded the rank of Lieutenant General. In September 1957, he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Guangzhou Military Region.
Reach the peak of power
The year 1968 was a major turning point for Wen Yucheng in his life. After 10 years in the Guangzhou Military Region, he suddenly received an order from the Military Commission to take up the post of deputy chief of general staff of the Military Commission in Beijing. He was in charge of training, operations and communications.
The city of Beijing has brought him supreme glory and unprecedented misfortune. This has something to do with his character, because he can only be a soldier. No matter who is his boss, he will faithfully and faithfully execute his orders, and will not adjust interpersonal relationships, take advantage of opportunities, or act on the wind. Therefore, he is often used by others.
On March 24, 1968, the "Yang Yufu Incident" occurred, and on that day Wen Yucheng was personally notified by Chairman Mao to "take charge of the important place in Beijing and the surrounding area". In this way, he served as the commander of the Beijing Garrison Area as the deputy general director, and then became an audience member at the meeting of the "Great Movement".
However, after only one year in Beijing, Wen Yucheng fell from the peak and, like his comrades in arms who were victims of the "Yang Yufu" incident, ushered in the same fate.
In this short year, Wen Yucheng was at the peak of military power and did three things:
First, to assist Premier Zhou in solving the problem of national traffic chaos;
Second, assist Huang Yongsheng in handling the Treasure Island incident;
The third is to help Xie Fuzhi manage the "model regiment" of the army.

Once when Wen Yucheng was in charge of the left-wing troop transfer of the Literature and Art Troupe, he did not know the situation and replaced the military cadres sent by the Minister of Culture Liu Qingtang, who was deeply loved by Jiang Qing.
Then Liu Qingtang went to Jiang Qing and told him about it. Jiang Qing was furious and wanted to track down this "serious incident against revolutionaries". He pestered Premier Zhou and demanded that Wen Yucheng be dealt with seriously. Premier Zhou, who has always endured humiliation, had to go to Wen Yucheng and Xie Fuzhi and persuade them to "write a review for Comrade Jiang Qing together!"
Unexpectedly, Xie Fuzhi, who was in charge of the model opera, played a trick. He said to Wen Yucheng, citing his busy work:
"You are helping me manage the model group. Well, I have a lot of things to do and I am busy with my work. Let's write a review for Jiang Qing together. You write it first, and we will sign our names together and hand it over to Jiang Qing, and the matter will be over."
After Wen Yucheng wrote the review, Xie Fuzhi did not sign among the reviewers, but signed on the title of the writing. In this way, Xie Fuzhi not only pushed away the connections, but became the leader of review and review, which made Jiang Qing hate Wen Yucheng.

In the summer of 1969, Li Bida, Huang Yongsheng's secretary, came to Wen Yucheng and handed him a letter. In addition to reflecting that Huang Yongsheng had an unfair relationship with Ye Qun, the letter also contained Huang Yongsheng, Ye Qun and other abusive words about Jiang Qing.
Wen Yucheng doesn't want to answer the letter, but Li Bida's secretary has to ask him to hand it over to Jiang Qing. After thinking about it, Wen Yucheng thought that Jiang Qing had no military rank and he should give this letter to his boss, so he handed it over to Lin Biao's office. But who would have thought that Lin Biao didn't see the letter at all, but Ye Qun also detained it and handed it to Huang Yongsheng.
Huang Yongsheng and Ye Qun naturally became wary of Wen Yucheng, because Wen Yucheng was responsible for the work of the "model group" and often contacted Jiang Qing, which made Huang Yongsheng and Ye Qun deeply uneasy.
In June 1970, Lin Biao, who was repeatedly called "pillow wind", sent Wen Yucheng to Chengdu Military Region to serve as deputy commander. This was a demotion. Wen Yucheng did not argue, but habitually chose to obey orders.
In 1971, after Lin Biao's defection, Wen Yucheng, who was hated by Jiang Qing, was soon quarantined on the spot and detained in secret.

In the winter of 1975, Li Xiannian and Chen Xilian went to Beijing Hospital to visit Premier Zhou who was seriously ill. When Chen Xilian shook hands with Premier Zhou, Premier Zhou volunteered: "How are you now? Have you passed the exam?"

Chen Xilian nodded gratefully and replied, "We have passed the exam." Because Chen Xilian was also called to his name, Premier Zhou had tried many times to protect him, but he was powerless. What they said is that whether the problem about Chen Xilian has been solved.
After hearing the affirmative answer, Premier Zhou went on to say, "In this case, I will be relieved." Then Premier Zhou said to Li Xiannian:
"I have done two things in my life and I am not at ease. Apart from Comrade Chen Xilian, there is also Comrade Wen Yucheng."
When Premier Zhou mentioned Wen Yucheng, he could not help but shed tears because he could not find the place where Wen Yucheng was being held, so he was powerless.
He cried to the two people in front of him:
"Do you know where Wen Yucheng is now? I didn't want to lock him. Jiang Qing forced him to... Go find him and see how he is?"
At this time, Wen Yucheng was still imprisoned in the Deng's garden, boiling water, mopping and sweeping the floor for the legal team guarding him every day. He often didn't have enough to eat, and was bullied, teased and even beaten.

In December 1976, the Chengdu Military Region released Wen Yucheng, who had been detained for six years without cause, according to the notice of the Central Committee. At this time, Wen Yucheng has become a thin old man with weak spirit and almost dull speech and behavior.
In 1980, with the help of Huang Kecheng, the organization reexamined Wen Yucheng and restored the treatment of deputy officers in the major military area.
On October 29, 1989, Wen Yucheng died in Nanjing at the age of 74. He did not choose Babaoshan as his final destination in life. He left a last word to the organization: be frugal in mourning, and place the ashes in the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Martyrs Cemetery.
