General Luo Ruiqing met Chairman Mao in 1929. He has worked beside Chairman Mao for more than 20 years, and is known as Chairman Mao's top guard. The relationship between the two can be said to be very close.

On March 18, 1966, Senior General Luo Ruiqing was wrongly criticized and forced to jump to death to prove his innocence. What is Chairman Mao's attitude towards Luo Ruiqing at this time?

Chairman Mao's attitude towards Luo Ruiqing changed

In November 1949, when Luo Ruiqing accepted his new appointment as Director of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau, Chairman Mao praised his work:

"It seems that the sky can't fall down, and it doesn't matter if it falls down. There is eldest son Luo standing by. With your eldest son Luo, there is the safety of the Party Central Committee! I can sleep well and eat well."

Luo Ruiqing can be said to be a cadre trained by Chairman Mao. Chairman Mao can be regarded as Luo Ruiqing's teacher and elder, who gave him a lot of advice and trusted him very much. Therefore, it was not Chairman Mao's intention to punish Luo Ruiqing.

In October 1965, Chairman Mao inspected the work in Hangzhou. One day, Ye Qun came to Chairman Mao's residence with a letter about Luo Ruiqing's "whistle blowing materials". Chairman Mao did not see her at that time, but only received her letter.

At 5 o'clock the next morning, Chairman Mao stayed up all night for work without a break, so he asked Ye Qun to come and talk. The two talked for nearly five hours, mainly about Luo Ruiqing.

In his false accusation against Luo Ruiqing, Ye Qun raised the question of "death without proof". He said that the late air force commander Liu Yalou told Ye Qun four things about Lin Biao not to meddle in the army at the direction of Luo Ruiqing, hoping that she would persuade Lin Biao to accept.

After the conversation, Chairman Mao accepted these materials and only half believed Ye Qun's words, but his view of Luo Ruiqing also changed.

On November 25 of the same year, Luo Ruiqing rushed to Shanghai to attend the meeting. At that time, Chairman Mao, Premier Zhou, Deng Gong and others were present, and the meeting was presided over by Chairman Mao himself.

However, it is unexpected that Lin Biao, Ye Qun, Wu Faxian and Li Zuopeng, among others, retaliated against Luo Ruiqing and framed him during the "Shanghai Conference", laying various charges for Luo Ruiqing. Their purpose is very clear, that is, to seize the extremely important military leadership position of Chief of the General Staff held by Luo Ruiqing.

During the meeting, Luo Ruiqing once had a very familiar comrade go to his residence to talk with him. At that time, Luo Ruiqing didn't know what his mistake was, so he told his depression to the friend. He asked, "Why did I take this approach? What mistake did I make?"

When the comrade saw Luo Ruiqing, who was so depressed, he felt anxious for him. In a hurry, he blurted out, "Too prominent, you are too prominent!"

Unfortunately, this sentence did not wake up Luo Ruiqing. There is an old saying that "when trees are beautiful in the forest, the wind will destroy them; when they are piled up on the bank, the current will flow." If he can think of these, maybe his pain will be reduced.

Luo Ruiqing, suffering from mental torture

After the Shanghai Conference, Lin Biao and Ye Qun found Wu Faxian and asked him to continue to find circumstantial evidence for the material that framed Luo Ruiqing. Lin Biao is not satisfied with "hanging up" Luo Ruiqing, but wants to completely punish him.

On March 4, 1966, the Central Committee held a meeting in Beijing to criticize Luo Ruiqing. Lin Biao and others even planned to kill him. Previously, although Luo Ruiqing felt wronged and wronged, the information he received was indirect. Although the question was serious, the atmosphere was calm.

But when we arrived at the meeting, the atmosphere changed completely. Wu Faxian first raised the issue, and put a lot of creepy hats such as "careerist" and "schemer" on Luo Ruiqing's head.

Some people attending the meeting did not know the truth, and some believed that the slander of Lin Biao and Ye Qun was true. Others wanted to follow Lin Biao by criticizing Luo Ruiqing to gain some benefits. Others were forced by the situation, and even if they sympathized with him, they could only remain silent, or said that they could draw a line with Luo Ruiqing.

In a word, no matter what the situation and ideas of each person are, from the surface, everyone has broken the "skin" with Luo Ruiqing to varying degrees. All this is more painful for Luo Ruiqing's spirit than his flesh.

Luo Ruiqing could not argue with a hundred words. All the previous humiliations and wrongs came to his mind, and gradually fell into an indescribable abyss of pain. On March 18, Luo Ruiqing thought of fighting against all kinds of inexplicable framing and replying to all kinds of "unwarranted" charges with death. After writing his last book to his wife, he went down from the window without hesitation.

However, Luo Ruiqing did not return to the west. He suffered from comminuted fractures of his calcaneus, especially in his left foot. If you can't hope for death, the crime will be increased. It is called "self denial to the Party and the people", which seems to have reached the point of eternal doom.

Luo Ruiqing, who is unconscious, lies in the hospital, while the critical struggle against his absence is still going on. On April 8, the meeting finally concluded that he was "openly reaching out to the Party, forcing Comrade Lin Biao to abdicate his talents and power, and carrying out conspiracy activities".

Chairman Mao's attitude towards Luo Ruiqing's tragic encounter

After the news that Luo Ruiqing was hospitalized for jumping off a building, Chairman Mao directly scolded: "No hope!" He was very angry at Luo Ruiqing's behavior. Luo Ruiqing was the most severe comrade and student he had criticized, and he still loved him very much. If there were any mistakes, just correct them in time. Why would he want to die?

Chairman Mao and Wang Dongxing

In order to prevent Luo Ruiqing from seeking personal prejudice again, Chairman Mao entrusted Wang Dongxing to visit him and asked him to deliver a sentence:

"The Central Committee asked me to tell you that the Central Committee and Chairman Mao loved you, protected you and cared about you."

This sentence also comforted Luo Ruiqing, who had just woken up. He felt even more guilty when he saw his wife and children in tears in front of the hospital bed. For the sake of his family, he is ready to accept these storms, but Lin Biao and others have not ended their revenge on him.

In December of the same year, Lin Biao and his gang instigated the rioters to break into the hospital and kidnap Luo Ruiqing. At the criticism meeting, Luo Ruiqing, whose wound was not healed, was put in the basket by the troublemakers and dragged to the stage, leaving bloodstains where he passed.

When Chairman Mao learned this, he immediately intervened in person and asked Luo Ruiqing to continue hospitalization. However, Ye Qun and others have never stopped their interrogation and extortion of confessions from Luo Ruiqing.

It was not until the Second Plenary Session of the Ninth Central Committee was held in August 1970 that Chairman Mao perceived Lin Biao's ambition to seize power from his class that they ignored Luo Ruiqing.

Ye Jianying, Wang Zhen, Luo Ruiqing

On September 13, 1971, Lin Biao, together with Ye Qun, fled in a hurry to betray the country and turn to the enemy. However, he was defeated and killed.

After Lin Biao's defection was announced, Luo Ruiqing seemed to understand everything. Before that, he had never understood why Lin Biao wanted to deal with himself extremely ferociously. He always looked at the good side and thought it might be a misunderstanding. Now that everything is clear, he feels much more relaxed and has written a lot of materials to expose Lin Biao's crimes.

On November 24, 1973, Luo Ruiqing was released from custody. On December 12, Chairman Mao made a self-criticism, saying that he had listened to Lin Biao's one-sided statement and wrongly corrected Luo Ruiqing. Later, Luo Ruiqing was successively appointed as an adviser to the Military Commission, a member of the Standing Committee of the Military Commission, and a Secretary General of the Military Commission.

On August 3, 1978, Luo Ruiqing died of sudden myocardial infarction after leg surgery. His desire to serve his country again was terminated when he returned from health.
