Iran's President Ibrahim Lacey's Life: Cruelty

Ibrahim Lacy was born in 1960 in Mashhad, Iran's second largest city, the country's most sacred Shiite Muslim shrine. His father, a priest, died when he was five years old.

Lacey wears a black turban. According to Shiite tradition, he is a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad. At the age of 15, he followed in his father's footsteps and began to study at the seminary in the holy city of Qom, under the guidance of some of Iran's most famous clergy.

When Iranians were generally dissatisfied with the Pahlavi regime, many of Qom's seminary students were enthusiastic about Khomeini's revolutionary ideals. Lesi was an active participant in the 1978 Islamic revolution, which forced the king into exile and established a theocratic government system based on Khomeini's vision.

From the very beginning, Laixi was committed to maintaining the new regime and opposing the internal opposition. He received administrative training, worked as a prosecutor in Karaj City, Hamadan City, Hamadan Province and other jurisdictions, and was taught by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who became President of Iran in 1981.

In 1985, at the age of 25, Lesi became deputy prosecutor of Tehran, the capital of Iran. In 1988, because of the burden and instability brought about by the Iran Iraq war, Khomeini ordered the execution of thousands of political prisoners (he accused them of colluding with Iraq). Lacey was appointed as one of the four judges of the secret court (later known as the "death committee"), responsible for determining whether prisoners were executed.

Most of these prisoners are members of the left-wing opposition organization People's Mujahideen Organization (MEK), also known as the Iranian People's Mujahideen Organization (PMOI).

In a secret order, Khomeini ordered officials: "Take any way that can ensure the faster implementation of the order, and immediately destroy the enemy of Islam."

In just a few weeks, about 10000 people were executed in prisons across the country, and their bodies were hidden in unmarked mass graves.

The killing was so extreme that Ayatollah Hussein Ali Montazeri, Khomeini's deputy and first choice successor, objected, saying that the victim had been convicted and sentenced according to law. Montazeri believes that imposing the death penalty on those who have served their sentences and have not committed new crimes is a mockery of the law.

Those who trace back to the massacre believe that Lacey is undoubtedly one of the people who ordered the execution. In 2016, Montazeri's audio files were made public, which caused a strong protest during Lacey's first presidential election in 2017.

Hassan Rouhani, the president who ran for re-election with Lessi at that time, criticized him for "violating the constitution and only executing and jailing in the past 38 years." Ahmed Montazeri, the son of Grand Ayatollah, called Lessi's candidacy "an insult to the Iranian people", while Ali Motahari, a maverick conservative MP, called for an investigation into the mass murder.

He began to be known as the "butcher of Tehran".

Lacey responded that the killing was "one of the proud achievements" of the Iranian government.

In 2017, he lost to Hassan Rouhani in the presidential election, and Rouhani was re elected by a large margin. In 2021, he won the election. When asked at the first press conference of the president-elect about his involvement in mass executions in 1988, he said:

"If a judge or a prosecutor has defended the safety of the people, he should be praised... I am proud to be able to defend human rights in every position."

More than three decades later, families of victims are still prohibited from publicly mourning or commemorating their deaths.

Enemies of the State

On September 13, 2022, Amini, a girl, was arrested by the "morality police" on the streets of Tehran, Iran's capital, because she did not wear a headscarf strictly according to the regulations. Three days later, Amini died in a hospital. The authorities denied that she had been abused, but the United Nations fact finding mission found that she "suffered physical violence and resulted in death".

Thousands of Iranians took to the streets, shouting the slogan of "women, life, freedom", and some burned headscarves to protest against the headscarve law.

The protests continued for many months and were not limited to Iran. In many European countries, many people took to the streets to demonstrate their solidarity with Iranian women; At the Qatar World Cup, Iranian players were silent when singing the national anthem before the start of the game, expressing their support for domestic women's freedom.

President Lacey paid no attention to the protest demands and vowed to "resolutely deal with" the riots and suppress them by force.

The United Nations delegation said that reliable data showed that as many as 551 protesters were killed by Iranian security forces, most of whom were shot.

In addition, the United Nations investigation mission found that after torture, more than 20000 other protesters were detained and 9 young male protesters were executed through summary procedures.

The protest finally subsided, but people are still generally dissatisfied with religious institutions and the headband law. Many women and girls have openly stopped covering their hair in public - the Iranian Parliament and Lesi have tried to deal with this behavior through new legislation and new repression.

Today, when the news of his plane crash came, there was a rare situation in history: people feared that there were survivors. His death was confirmed, and fireworks were set off everywhere in Iran.

His death will not bring change to Iran. People who are more cruel and conservative than him are preparing to take over.

Fireworks are easy to extinguish and cold, but at least there is a moment worth celebrating.
