Financial News Agency, May 18 (Editor Liu Rui) According to three insiders, Apple is developing a thinner iPhone, which is expected to be launched in 2025.
According to the report, this thinner version of the iPhone is currently called iPhone 17 Slim in Apple, code named D23, and may be more expensive than Apple's iPhone Pro Max. At present, Pro Max is Apple's most expensive model, starting at $1200.
The source predicted that this new model will be launched together with the iPhone 17 series in September 2025. Insiders who understand Apple's development process suggest that the iPhone Plus model may be eliminated, making way for the iPhone 17 Slim. In addition, Apple may also plan to launch a cheaper iPhone in the spring of 2025 as a follow-up product of iPhone SE.
Design language will realize transformation
At present, Apple is still testing different design options for this D23 phone, including the use of aluminum body. According to several sources, Apple hopes to achieve a leap in the iPhone X level in the design language of this model.
It is revealed that the upgraded front camera and face recognition sensor will have smaller holes in the front of the fuselage, making its appearance more concise. The rear camera may move to the center of the back of the phone (this can reduce the possibility of users' fingers accidentally covering the lens).
In terms of size, the screen size of this model is between the current iPhone basic model and iPhone Pro Max, that is, between 6.12 inches and 6.69 inches. This phone may eventually be equipped with Apple's latest generation processor A19.
However, given the thinner body of this model, Apple may need to make technical optimization in terms of battery life, device performance and functional integrity. Generally speaking, the thin body may affect the battery capacity and durability, and the mobile phone performance and heat dissipation are also more likely to have problems.
Apple is facing greater competitive pressure
This potential upgrade of Apple highlights the company's urgent need to stimulate the sales of iPhone products.
As the most popular product of Apple, iPhone is facing fierce competition all over the world: whether from China's Glory and Huawei, or from South Korea's Samsung Electronics, it is launching highly competitive mobile phone products to seize market share.
According to the data of research company IDC, in the first quarter of this year, Samsung occupied the first place in the global smartphone market with 20.8% market share, while Apple followed with 17.3% market share.
In May this year, Apple announced its second fiscal quarter (i.e. the first quarter of 2024 natural year) financial report. In this quarter, Apple's global iPhone sales fell 10.5% year on year to $45.96 billion.
