Tesla said that by the end of this year, its new battery technology will be cheaper than suppliers' batteries
The race to get rid of dirty energy has not slowed down. On the contrary, it stimulates more innovation.
According to Electrek, Tesla, an automobile and clean energy company, is increasing the production of 4680 batteries. It is expected that by the end of 2024, these batteries will be cheaper than suppliers.
Electric recently released a report detailing how Tesla had 4680 complete batteries in its inventory for weeks, including one production line and one assembly line in operation.
According to the data shared by the Congressional Budget Office, in 2021, the US transportation sector will cause about 1.7 billion metric tons (about 1.87 billion tons) of global warming carbon pollution, accounting for about 30%, which is the highest in all sectors of the national economy. In the United States, electric vehicles have reduced the amount of harmful pollution in the air by two-thirds.
The 4680 battery was originally developed by Tesla for commercial electric vehicles such as Model Y, and its energy capacity (26000mAh) is more than five times that of other electric vehicle batteries. As reported by ELB Energy Group, the 4680 battery itself uses less raw materials in the manufacturing process.
Tesla's goal is to continue to increase its 4680 battery production and provide more cost-effective options by the end of this year.
"The output of 4680 increased by about 18% compared with the fourth quarter, and by 20% compared with the fourth quarter, exceeding the demand of Cybertruck. As we announced on X, Cybertruck is about 7 GWh per year," said Lars Moravy, vice president of Tesla Automotive Engineering.
The increase in the production of 4680 batteries marks Tesla's promotion of electrification, which will help consumers to buy energy-saving cars more affordable and improve air quality and the overall health of the community.
Many projects are already under development to encourage the transition to cleaner transportation, such as Indiana's first quarter mile road, which will be able to charge electric vehicles and heavy trucks.
As for Tesla, it has launched products to lower the living cost of consumers, such as Powerwall 3 household energy storage system. The company is currently using its 4680 battery in its Cybertruck.
"I'm glad to see at least one American manufacturer succeed in this key technology," one commentator wrote in the comments section of Electrek's article.
